Welcome to the NPC Conversion thread! This is where player characters (PCs) can be converted into non-player characters (NPCs) and vice versa! If you’re wondering what an NPC is, please check out our FAQ first!

As you can see, converting a character to an NPC is not something to be taken lightly. However, if it is something you think you might like to do for one or more of your characters, you are welcome to request they be converted by replying to this thread confirming that you consent to the above terms. Once approved, a staff member will reply and let you know!
Conversely, if the four-month wait time has elapsed and you would like to convert an NPC character back to a player character, you can request that be done here as well! Simply let us know which character you'd like to convert back and we'll get it sorted for you. Characters converted back to player characters will be treated as a newly approved character in the context of Age Ups, in that if they are converted within one month before the Age Up starts, they will be immune to strikes.

Reasons someone might want to make their character an NPC include but are not limited to:
- They’ve lost muse for the character and wish to take a break without impeding other player’s plots
- They no longer wish to play the character but don’t want to kill them off
- They want to take a hiatus from the site but still want to keep their characters in the game
Of course, there are some caveats that come with converting a character to an NPC, seen below:
- By converting your character to an NPC, you give up narrative control of them. This means that other players will be allowed to control the character in their own threads, and they may be used by staff to help advance site plots. (Note: NPCs will not be killed off without warning or permission from their creator. They may however be sent on patrols or receive minor injuries, for example.)
- If your character was created by filling an adoptable for someone, the person who originally listed the adoptable reserves the right to put the character back up for adoption upon them becoming an NPC. While they can also choose to leave them as an NPC in case the adopter decides to come back to them after a break, it’s ultimately the lister’s decision.
- Once your character is converted to an NPC, you will need to wait a minimum of four IRL months (equivalent to two in-game moons) before they will be eligible to be converted back to a player character. This countdown will start on the day the conversion is confirmed, at which point it cannot be reversed.
- All NPC restrictions will apply. The cat in question can no longer participate in posts without another player character present, and can no longer have litters through the Litter Department unless converted back to a player character.
