I've noticed there's a few questions that seem to come up a lot, so I figured I'd make a little FAQ for everyone! If there's something you'd like to see added to this, feel free to message any staff member and let them know.
Q: How long have the Clans been gone?
A: About 30 years, give or take. To put that into perspective, that’s enough time for anywhere from 6 to 10 generations of cats between the fall of the Clans and now.

Q: Is the warrior code going to be the same once the Clans are reformed?
A: Yes and no! There will of course be some things that will likely be the same, purely because they’re sensible (not trespassing on other Clans’ territory, etc) but for the most part it will depend on the leaders who end up forming these Clans! The plan is for the TCR Warrior Code to be an ever-growing thing that arises from the cats building it themselves.

Q: Is SkyClan going to be one of the Clans that comes back?
A: No, in this AU SkyClan never existed. TCR is based on the first arc, in which only four Clans are present. Perhaps someday we’ll introduce other Clan-like groups, but ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, and ShadowClan will be the only “true” Clans.

Q: Why can’t I play a calico/tortoiseshell that’s AMAB?
A: While this does happen in real life, due to genetic anomalies, in the interest of keeping things simple I’ve elected not to include such scenarios on TCR. As such, the only cats capable of being calico or tortoiseshell in this particular game are cats with two X chromosomes, who would be classed as AFAB.

Q: What’s the difference between a PC and an NPC?
A: A PC (player character) is any character you write with. These characters can have threads on their own or with other characters, are eligible to have kits if they meet the requirements, and can only be controlled by the person who plays them. An NPC (non-player character), on the other hand, is essentially a background character. There must be a player character present for them to take part in any threads, and any player is free to move them around as needed for the sake of the thread. They also cannot have kits through the Litters Department.

Q: Can I play two cats who are siblings or littermates?
A: Yes! While we try to encourage adopting out of family members for characters, sometimes there is a certain way you want them to be played or perhaps there are simply no players currently interested in adopting them. In any case, feel free to create a sibling pair and play both if that is what you would like to do!

Q: Why does it say the current moon is in 2021? Isn’t that in the past?
A: That is correct! In order to allow enough time to post in threads, time on TCR moves a bit slower than real life, at a rate of 2 real months for every 1 “moon” (about 29 days) of game time. Due to this, game time now runs entirely separately from real time. As such, it may be winter in the game and summer in real life, or vice versa! Feel free to consult the Almanac if you’d like to know the in-game time.

Q: Can I make a character that has Clan ancestors (ie. from before the Clans were destroyed)?
A: Technically, yes! There are a few such characters on the site already. However, this is allowed under the assumption that no cat knows for certain whether their family's claims of Clan heritage are true or not. Since there have been many generations of cats between the fall of the Clans and now, it is impossible for any living cat to confirm such claims. Any Clan knowledge passed down to such characters would likely be distorted and diluted by time as well.

Q: What prefixes and suffixes am I allowed to use for my cat's warrior name?
A: As a general rule of thumb, anything involving nature that a cat would reasonably know about is fair game! The only explicitly disallowed prefixes and suffixes that fall under this at the moment are the Clan prefixes (River, Shadow, Thunder, Wind, and Star). If you want a list to pick from, feel free to reference the Random Warrior Name Generator, as any combination of prefixes and suffixes from those lists is definitely allowed. If you have something else in mind, you're always welcome to ask!
