Many moons ago, the long-forgotten paths of this forest were walked by fierce cats known as warriors. Every warrior belonged to a Clan, an intertwined group of individuals that relied on each other to survive. Kits born into a Clan had the protection and support of not one cat but many, and as they grew were formally trained as apprentices to do their part. Warriors hunted for and protected their Clanmates, and when the time came for them to retire to the elders den they were honoured for all of their service. These cats lived under the guidance of one leader, a cat granted nine lives by their ancestors in StarClan to better aid them in their duties.
According to the legends, there were four great Clans, each with their own distinct attributes. ThunderClan was comprised of powerfully built cats living in dense undergrowth, just waiting for a chance to strike and catch the enemy off guard. RiverClan was home to cats whose coats were shiny with the oils of the fish they ate, and they were capable of swimming through the stormiest rapids. In the moors lived WindClan, wiry and lean cats who could outpace all others with ease. Last, but most certainly not least, were the cats of ShadowClan, cloaked in the darkness of the marshes with cunning and ambition matched by none.
These Clans lived amongst each other in perpetual turmoil; cats were sporting new injuries daily and the medicine cats, healers of the Clans, couldn’t keep up. The elders spoke of peaceful days long ago, but no other cat could remember a time when they hadn’t needed to watch over their shoulders in constant fear. The leaders of the four Clans knew something had to be done.
They met on the night of the full moon for the Gathering, each with a selection of their Clan in tow. It was a sacred night as decreed by StarClan, where there was to be only peace and discussion between the four rivals. However, tensions grew higher as accusations were flung in all directions and the leaders were unable to stop it from devolving into chaos.
The earth of the clearing was soon stained with spilled blood, bodies lying wounded and lifeless on the torn ground. Thick clouds covered the moon, signalling StarClan’s disapproval. Yet they fought heedlessly on, and in one short night the Clans that had lived in the forest for longer than any cat could remember were no more.
There were some survivors, mostly consisting of those who had stayed in their camps during the night of the Gathering and fled when news of the battle had reached them. With the threat of death trailing behind them at every pawstep they separated, each going their own ways. Some became loners, while others chose to avoid the harsh life of the wilds altogether and became kittypets. Many passed on the stories of the Clans to their kits, but as generations passed the details became blurred and indistinct. The once-legendary Clans of the forest soon became nothing more than a tale for sleepy kittens.
It has been many years since the Clans have fallen. While most cats are quick to dismiss them as myth, there are those that aren’t quite convinced. Some believe that the Clans did truly exist, and could do so again if given the chance. A few ambitious souls even plan to bring them back themselves. How will they manage to accomplish such a feat? That’s up to you.
The Clan Renaissance is a play-by-post roleplay set in the universe of Warriors by Erin Hunter. It is set in the forest from the first arc, which is based on New Forest, England. This roleplay is in an Alternate Universe where none of the events in the books took place, and instead the Clans were wiped out after a gruesome battle approximately thirty years ago. Stories of the Clans are still around, though much information has been lost to time. Now, the time has come for the four legendary Clans of old to rise once more.
As this roleplay is a complete AU from the books, knowledge of the series is not required to join!
