Today was a big day.
Burnet's sister, Juniper, had been pondering a strange dream for a couple moons now. In it, a starry cat had told her to look for a "stone" in a "mine", then to find four other cats. They had also mentioned the Clans. The dream was too vivid to be complete nonsense, but neither Juniper nor Burnet had the faintest idea what it meant.
That was until yesterday.
By chance, she had encountered some kittypets who had the very same dream she did! Together, they were able to devise a plan to hopefully solve the mystery. Last night, Juniper had informed Burnet that she would be leaving with them to find the gleaming stone.
He was excited that she had finally found a lead. Her dream had reignited his curiosity about the Clans, and he was eager to see where her journey would take her.
When they were kits, their father would tell them elaborate tales about the ancient Clans. Massive colonies of cats guided by the stars, fighting for their loved ones on exciting adventures. As much as he had wanted to believe the stories, he had always regarded them as simple kitten tales. Now, it seemed that the stories had roots in reality after all.
Burnet couldn't shake the feeling that something big was happening, and Juniper was right at the center of it.
They only had one day to set everything in order, so they needed to work fast. It was rare for Burnet to be alone at the den for more than a couple days. Neither of them had any idea how long it would take Juniper's group to find the stone, so he needed to keep their den safe and prepare for emergencies in her absence.
He rose from his nest, stretched, and stepped outside. It was almost time for his morning hunt.
"Morning, Juniper," he purred. "So, what all do we need to do today? Is there anything I should be looking for while I'm out hunting?" He expected she might need some fresh traveling herbs.
