A little kitten in a big world, it was not often that one found Blaze at ease outside of a sleepy family huddle within their den. Yet even so, there were breaths of time when even he was just a lively little kit. When his mother was calm and his sisters playing freely seemed to be one of those breaths. And so Blaze found himself huddled among the grasses not in fear, but in preparation. Sights set on one of his sisters, Blaze was putting his stealth skills to practice with careful pawsteps.

Unfortunately, stealth was only so effective before the surprise attack of another won out. Feeling paws thump into him, Blaze released a squeak of startled protest as he tumbled. A soft clump of grass caught the young tom easily, and he lashed his tail to right himself as he peered around. Blaze's gaze had just zeroed in on his other sister, be her attack intentional or not, when a sound caught his ear.

Head shooting up in sync with his mother's, tension rippled through Blaze's little body. Fur fluffed with alarm, Blaze spared one anxious glance in the direction of the snap, before his attention zipped to his mother. Poppy was bristled and tense, quick as ever to usher them to safety. Blaze did not need telling twice. Body low, the little tabby darted between his mother's stiffened legs and scurried into the den, eyes seeing naught but his destination.

Mama always kept them safe.
