Two dark ears twitched at the sound of the front door closing. Ah, her twoleg must be going to that thing she called work. Perfect. The young she-cat stood and stretched upwards, back arched, tail kinked, claws sunk into the back of the couch for support. Once she was finished she hopped down onto the floor and looked towards the door, but it showed no signs of opening again. She turned her attention to the back of the twoleg nest were the door with the cat flap was, eager to get back out into the garden and then into the unknown.
She stepped out into the grass and immediately noticed a butterfly flitting around some of the flowers in the garden. Unable to resist, she crouched down, slowly stalking up to it until she felt like she was close enough and then… pounce! She just barely touched the wing with her paw, and the creature fluttered away out of reach so it wouldn’t be tormented by the little cat anymore. Rosemont huffed, looking at the butterfly, but decided not to wait for it to come back down. She had much more important things to do than wait on it.
Pushing her way through the hole in the fence under the bush, she came upon the same rough path material that she had seen yesterday, bordered by grass on her side. She placed her paws on the concrete path like she had the day before, the texture rough on her paw pads but not unbearable. She figured she would get used to it in time. Glancing around, she decided she would go left today since she had gone right yesterday; she wanted to see what the left side had in store for her. She trotted down the path between her own twoleg nest and another until she came to the front of the nests.
In front of her the concrete split off in two directions, and was cut off in front of her by a black stretch of land that had odd yellow lines going down the middle. Rosemont wondered why they were different, and she was about to set paw on the black asphalt when a sort of growling sound arose nearby. Within a matter of seconds a strange, shiny thing that was much bigger than her and had dark gray paws zoomed past and buffeted her fur, causing her to leap back in surprise.
Her fur was on end as she stared, wide-eyed, at the creature. It quickly disappeared around the bend, but it was enough to have spooked her. What was that thing?! she wondered. Feeling her heart drumming in her chest, she started grooming herself on the sidewalk, trying to calm herself down. The tip of her striped tail twitched in anxiety, even though no more of the things seemed to be around. She hoped no cat had seen her jump backwards and get spooked by that thing; she was trying to make friends, not get teased.
