Personality: Rat has the wisdom of someone who has seen a lot, and who’s been through all kinds of experiences. He’s hardened by his pain and by his scars, so much so that he’s become desensitized to the horrors he’s seen. He’s rational-minded and a strategic thinker, though he prefers to stick to rules and routines. The aches from his scars and sores make him grumpy and fatigued. His strict adherence to the present makes him a bit of a cynic. He mostly sticks to his own morals and keeps as few connections to other cats as possible.
History: Rat grew up under Stone’s reign as leader, being initiated into the group when he was 5 moons old. As such, he doesn’t remember what his life was like before, or who his parents or littermates were. Neither mattered to him. Only survival did.
He met Patch as a young kit, trying to steal food from his catch. Pitying the kit, he and his hunting partner returned to their leader to let him in the clan. Eventually the two cats became friends.
For a time, Rat pledged his service to Stone, but only so far as it would benefit him. That was until his mate Croak caught yellowcough. Rat watched as Croak’s health deteriorated and Stone’s refusal to allow Croak to rest. His yellwcough eventually developed into greencough and then he passed away. Angered by Croak’s death, Rat tried usurping Stone in combat but was badly wounded by the attack. Rat was lucky to have survived.
He later convinced Patch to overthrow Stone. Once Patch defeated Stone, the group quickly seized back the leadership and Rat was forced to flee with Patch.
