Name: Dusk
Desired Name: Duskthorn
Allegiance: Solitaire, future unknown
Rank: Loner
Age: 33 moons
Birth Moon: Shadow Moon, 2018
Sex: She-cat
Appearance: Slender gray she-cat with white muzzle and chest, yellow eyes. Dark pink nose outlined in black. Paw pads, a mix of pink and black. Photo
Personality: Dusk was taught from a young age that she needed to fight for what she wanted. "Survival of the fittest. The strong take from the weak. Take what you need to stay alive and free. Betray others before they can betray you."
And the worst part is that these rules have saved her life more than a few times. Dusk hates it. She hates the looks of hatred or betrayal, but she's had it hammered into her that her survival comes first.
So she hides her guilt behind cold sneers and cynicism, acting unaffected when each glare sent her way is claws sinking into her heart.
History: Dusk was born first in a litter of three. Her sister Penny came second, and her brother Sparrow is last. They never knew their father. Jade told them he was just a random tom that agreed to sire her kits and that was that.
For the first three moons of her life, Dusk was a normal kit. She played, she fed, she napped. As soon as the kits were weaned, Jade started training them to hunt. Her philosophy was 'if you don't hunt, you don't eat'. And in that way, Dusk learned early that it was every cat for themselves.
The littermates weren't allowed to share their kills either, even when they couldn't finish it. Dusk tried to share once, when Jade was out hunting for herself. She let Sparrow have a bite of her dove, which at four moons old was as big as she was. Jade came back while he was still chewing and they were both grounded for it, not allowed to leave the den for the rest of that day and the next. A day and a half might not seem bad to us, but since they couldn't hunt, that meant they didn't eat for that time.
It honed the lesson in though, which is what she wanted. The littermates were allowed to play and sleep together, it was only food they weren't allowed to share. When the siblings were six moons old, Jade decided they were old enough to look after themselves and tossed them out.
Penny was quick to separate from them. She wasn't as close as Dusk and Sparrow were. She gave them a stiff farewell before trotting off and never being seem again.
Dusk and Sparrow, however, decided to stick together. Sparrow was small and meek, and wasn't the best at physical stuff. Dusk was the hunter and the fighter for both of them, especially as they were traveling away from their birth home. They had to take multiple rests for Sparrow to catch his breath, making what should have been a day or two traveling to Twolegplace a four day affair.
I can't say Dusk didn't MIND it. She was eager to explore a brand new area, see what else was out there. She went out to find food each break though, and more than once she bullied other cats away from their kill.

- hunting got worse the closer they got to twolegplace.
- they lived in a little woodsy area that had like fifteen trees and bushes.
- Sparrow got caught in a twoleg trap. It was one of those that snapped shut behind when the cat went to get food, meant to fool the kind of cat that couldn't hunt for themselves.
- Sparrow called out for Dusk to help him, and to her credit she tried! But then the twoleg came closer. Dusk looked back and forth between the twoleg and her brother, and she watched her brother's eyes widen in horror as he realized what she was about to do.
- She left him. She left him crying out, begging her not to leave him. She had no choice. It was survival. Either one of them went down or both of them, and wasn't it better if one of them escaped?
- This is what she told herself when she went back, days later. No trap, no Sparrow. Her brother was gone.
- Dusk made herself go cold. She numbed the guilt until she convinced herself it was for the best. Not all twolegs were bad. He could have survived, been made into a kittypet. He'd do better as one than a wild cat.
- She made herself move on, making her way through twolegplace until she wound up at a forest. And still she went deeper, finding an abandoned den in the area between the pine forest and the oak forest. She met a few cats, but chased them away. She was better on her own.
