Noctus || Tom || 28 moons It had been a quiet morning so far, the temperature already climbing though the sun had yet to reach its highest point. A sleek black shape slipped between the trunks of the pines, the fallen needles making the movement soundless. He wasn't particularly trying to be sneaky, but Noctus preferred not to draw attention to himself where it wasn't necessary. Life was just easier if you didn't go around bothering other cats and making a ruckus, he thought.
He had decided to go visit his kits in Twolegplace, a common pastime for the tom. In fact, he was there so often he could almost be considered a housecat himself. He had learned to deal with their cooing and strange paws stroking his fur, and occasionally they even gave him a tasty snack when he stopped by. Plus, he knew the smooth tile of the their kitchens would be gloriously cool.
Now that they had all gone to their own nests, he would have to decide who to visit first. He had just visited his daughter Lily recently, so perhaps he would venture to Bluebell's garden today. He thought over his conversation with his headstrong daughter the other day, frowning a bit as he recalled her pestering him to teach her how to fight. It had been one thing when she had wanted to practice her hunter's crouch, but this he felt was a bit too much. He would have to come up with a way to let her down gently.
As Noctus loped along quickly, he wasn't paying much attention to where he was putting his paws. He knew this forest pretty well, and wasn't concerned. However, there was a ginger pile of fluff that definitely hadn't been there last time he came this way, and he noticed too late that it was right in his path. The black tom tried to skid to a stop, but was just a whisker too close and slid right into the other cat, pine needles scattering around them. What was that he had been thinking earlier about not bothering cats and making a ruckus, again?

Riley I hope this is okay! I've never written Noctus before so it might be a bit stilted, but I should ease into it as we go~

Tired. So, so tired.
Flare wasn't normally this tired, but even he wasn't immune to the pestering of kits. Jay and Violet had wanted some alone time and had asked their eldest son to watch his baby siblings for a night. That was it, one night. How hard could that be?
The answer seemed to be VERY. Melody knew exactly how to use her kitten eyes to beg for five more minutes, and Spider was smart enough to make it sound REASONABLE that if they're staying up more he might as well tell them a story, and Gale always always ALWAYS wanted one of his stories about the Clans.
It culminated in the lot of them, kits and adult alike, not getting to sleep until just before dawn. Which, incidentally, was one Jay and Violet got back. And they'd sent him out to get some breakfast for the lot of them. If they'd noticed how exhausted he was, they said nothing of it. And Flare wouldn't tell them. Which meant here he was, out in the forest, dragging his paws in the leaf litter and not even trying to hunt.
Ugh. So tired. Maybe he could catch a small nap? Flare thought nothing of flopping over and curling up right where he was. It hadn't occurred to him just how NOT smart of an idea that was, not until somebody ACTUALLY ran him him. "Oof!" They hit with the force of a monster. Or that's what it felt like to him. Flare let out a groan and rolled onto his back to look at the sky. "Why me. What did I do to deserve this? I try to be a good cat and a good brother. All I want is a nap. That's it. Not even a long nap."
Dramatics done, Flare sighed heavily and heaved himself to his paws, looking at the black-pelted tom with all the tiredness of a sleepless night. "Are you hurt?" he asked, just to make sure he hadn't, like, twisted a paw or something trampling.

Noctus || Tom || 28 moons Noctus tumbled over the ginger cat in a tangle of legs and tails, and they both went sprawling. The black tom struggled to his paws quickly, knowing that this stranger likely wasn't pleased to have been disturbed. He grimaced inwardly, bracing for the other cat -- a tom around his age, it looked like -- to come flying at him. So when the tom just rolled over with a groan, exposing his belly and staring blankly above, Noctus was thrown off track. He relaxed from his defensive stance while the other cat began to speak seemingly to no one in particular.
"Why me. What did I do to deserve this? I try to be a good cat and a good brother. All I want is a nap. That's it. Not even a long nap." After a heartbeat, he sighed loudly and pulled himself to his paws to face Noctus. "Are you hurt?" The black tom felt a prickle of guilt as he took in the other cat's exhausted expression and realized he should be the one asking that question. He had been the one to cause this trouble, after all.
"I'm fine, thank you. Sorry for waking you, I wasn't watching my paws. Are you alright?" He wanted to make sure he hadn't been injured, but he was also a bit worried about what could have kept the tom awake long enough to cause the drawn look on his face. Noctus wonders if he should worry, if there's some new threat in the woods these days that he doesn't know about. He'll have to warn Dahlia and the kits to stay close to their gardens if that's the case.

Noctus || Tom || 28 moons Noctus was about to insist that no, really, it was his fault for not watching where he was going and this wasn't an unusual place to nap. A bit out in the open, sure, but for all he knew maybe he'd been enjoying the sun. But then he said Noctus' name, or part of it at least, and that made him push all of his previous thoughts to the back of his mind. It shouldn't surprise him, really; he'd been in this part of the forest for the better part of a year now. But usually when a cat knew about him, he knew them too. The fact he was pretty sure he'd never seen this orange tom before unsettled him a bit.
"Um, yes, my name is Noctus. I've lived here for a few seasons, though I can't say I recognize you..." He squinted for a moment at the tom, wondering if perhaps he was forgetting seeing him before, but nope, nothing. Well, he would fix that now. "And your name is?"
This cat didn't seem malicious, at least. His rush to correct himself when he implied he'd been following Noctus without him knowing showed that much. Unless he was acting innocent to get him to let his guard down... but somehow Noctus didn't think that was the case. He seemed too genuine. The black tom let his voice soften as he added, "You could have said hi, I wouldn't have minded. There aren't many friendly cats in this forest, it would be a welcome change." He laughed quietly to himself, remembering past encounters with cats in the area that hadn't gone nearly as smoothly as this one.

Noctus! That was his name! Flare was almost ashamed he had forgotten such a unique name, but he decided to blame the sleep deprivation. Normally he was better than that with pairing names and faces. It took Flare a moment to realize that, rather than raising suspicions, he'd accidentally unsettled Noctus. "Oh, right, my bad! Flare. My name is Flare. Sorry, I'm usually more polite than this."
He shrugged a little at being told he could have said hi. "Normally I would have, but I was up in the trees. Calling out would have scared away all the prey in the area and you were gone by the time I got to the ground. I didn't think meeting a new cat was worth seeming stalkery by following after your scent trail and figured I'd say hi if I saw you again. I honestly forgot about it before now."
A loud yawn broke through again, but this time Flare had the presence of mind to turn his head away so he wasn't yawning right in Noctus's face. He only turned back once he was done and smiled apologetically. "Sorry. I live with my parents and baby siblings and they wouldn't settle down last night. Little brats kept me up all night." Though he complained, the smile on his face gave away his fond exasperation with them.

Noctus || Tom || 28 moons "Well, it's nice to meet you, Flare," Noctus nodded to the other tom. His name suited him, he thought. His fur was just as bright as a flame, certainly. "Really, it's fine, I wasn't exactly polite in waking you." He had thought perhaps hearing his name would have rung a bell, but he still didn't recall ever meeting this cat before. Perhaps he was getting too absorbed in his own little world. Hearing Flare's explanation, Noctus laughed at the thought.
"That's true, I probably wouldn't have been too impressed if I found you tracking me through the woods." That would have unsettled him far more than the other cat simply knowing his name. Flare's jaws parted in an enormous yawn as he turned away, and Noctus found himself nodding in sympathy as he told him about the younger siblings who had kept him up late. The black tom knew all too well what that felt like.
"Kits can be such a pawful. Always begging for one more story, or tumbling around like foxes when they ought to be sleeping." Noctus smiled knowingly. "I have a litter in Twolegplace, myself. They aren't as bad now that they're all living in different nests, but when they were younger I thought my mate and I would never sleep again. How old are your siblings?" He wondered if they were close in age to his own kits. It was nice of Flare to help his parents with their second litter, he thought, and wondered if his kits would do the same. Maybe Zinnia or Basil, he decided after a moment of thought.
