Where there's a will there's a way kind of beautiful

Cream was hyperaware of the light crunch of snow and pine needles beneath her feet as she moved through the woods. Normally she would have been seeking some place warm to rest for the evening, but today she felt too restless to stop yet. She had come to this place with her mothers' stories in mind, and had spent the day envisioning forest cats walking and hunting beside her. Initially, the imaginings had given her great comfort, but now it felt more like a reminder of how profoundly lonely she felt. She wished she hadn't parted ways with Timber on such terms. Even more strongly she wished her mothers were there. They always knew what to say to get the siblings to make up.
For a moment, when she caught a glimpse of the other cat ahead of her, she thought it must have been her imagination playing tricks on her again, but even after she blinked a few times the tabby tom was still there. His fur still had some of that kit-like fluff, but he was as tall as she was from the look of it at a distance. If she had to guess he would be quite large when he reached adulthood. Cream had to fight to suppress the swell of excitement that bloomed in her chest. It had been so long since she had met a friendly cat.
"Ah, good evening," she mewed as she padded toward the other cat, trying to keep her body language as friendly and non-threatening as possible, "What brings you out to the forest?"
They weren't very far from the twoleg place, so perhaps the tom was a lost kittypet? He didn't have a collar that she could see, but that didn't always mean anything. She didn't mind though, so long as he didn't mind keeping her company a while.
