With leaf-fall having well arrived, the small family needed all the help hunting that they could. And the kits were older than Flare had been when he started learning to hunt, so it was about time they learned too. So the three adults split the kits up between them and took them out in different directions so as to keep distractions to a minimum.
Jay had taken Melody, since she was the only one to share his black pelt. Violet was watching Spider, since his quiet nature was akin to her own. Flare had gotten Gale, being the only one the younger tom would pay absolute attention to. Flare didn't mind some one on one time with his little mini-me.
He was unsure where his family had specifically gone, but he knew they weren't anywhere in the immediate area. Therefore, no worries about them all chasing the same prey. Flare led his baby brother through the forest before coming to a stop in a clearing and turning to Gale. "Alright, baby brother. Lesson one about hunting: your crouch. Without a good enough crouch, you won't be catching anything! So me what you got. Best hunter's crouch, one two three, go!"

The young orange tom gazed in wonder up at the trees, their once green leaves turning all different shades of red, yellow, orange, and finally brown when they floated down to the forest floor to lay in crunchy piles. He had already been warned to avoid these piles, as the sound would alert any prey in the area that they were around. It was torture to Gale not to be able to run over and bounce all over the leaves. If it had been his mother or father that were taking him on this lesson, he would have already blotted and buried himself deep in a leaf pile.
Flare was in charge today, though, and Gale looked up to his big brother as if he were a hero. So even though his ears twitched and his eyes moved to look at every little movement from a drifting leaf to a bird flitting from branch to branch, he did his best to stay close to Flare and be quiet—as difficult as it was with his excitable nature and desire to talk his big brother’s ear off every chance he got. Aside from a few, “Oohs,” at the various scenery, he was the quietest he had ever been in his life. Well, except before he could talk.
As they stepped into the clearing, Gale shivered slightly. The weather was growing cooler by the day as leaf-fall gave way to leaf bare. His thoughts about the chilly air were cut short by Flare’s words: “Best hunter’s crouch, one two three, go!”
Immediately he dropped onto all fours, but his pose was more than a little exaggerated, especially his rump as it was so high up in the air anything could see his bright red tabby coat even if his tail wasn’t straight up with it. If he could see himself, he would have died laughing. “How’s this, Flare?” he asked in excitement.

It was clear that Gale hadn't heard the first part of Flare's lesson, but Flare had to give him points for trying. Maybe not for his attempt at a hunting crouch though. It was one of the silliest poses Flare had ever seen. It was all he could do to not start laughing at the image of Gale's rump up in the air. "That's. Um. It's a nice attempt?" It was the nicest way Flare could think of to say 'it's an abomination'. He circled around Gale to examine it more closely to see if there was anything else wrong with it. "First of all, you look like you're begging an owl to catch you by your butt for a midnight snack." Flare reached forward to lightly pat Gale's hindquarters. "Lower these until they're even with your shoulders."He went back to the front and dropped into his own hunting crouch. "See how my spine is straight and my balance is even? Keep your weight evenly distributed between your paws."Zesha

“It’s a nice attempt” was all Gale needed to hear to start kneading the ground in excitement. He completely ignored the fact that the way Flare had said it was more of a question than an actual compliment on his, er, technique. It took a ton of willpower just to stop moving his paws so Flare could actually access his crouch properly.
Listening carefully, the orange tabby lowered his rump until they were roughly even with his shoulders, at least as far as he could tell. Big eyes followed the brilliant red of the older tom as he demonstrated a proper hunting crouch. Studying it, Gale adjusted his paws until he felt like his center of gravity was more in line with his chest and belly.
“Like this?” he asked. His back legs were still a bit too close to his front making his spine slightly too curved, but aside from that and his tail moving too much this looked far more like a hunter’s crouch than… whatever he had done the first time.

Gale • Tom • 6 moons • Loner Gale focused on the twig that had been dropped, confidence flooding into his paws. He could definitely do this. Pressing his chest a little lower, he started shimmying his little rump in the classic wiggle cats do before they pounce. One, two, three, jump!
As Flare had predicted, Gale’s pounce ended up with his front paws touching down while his hindquarters were still going. In fact, his momentum was more than a bit off and he managed to topple butt over head, at least thankfully managing to keep his bum on the ground after that embarrassing display. Still, he just gave a sheepish but goofy smile and said, “I don’t think that quite worked.” Riley

Flare almost felt bad for tricking Gale like that. The utmost confidence his baby brother had just before he pounced was, at any other time, admirable. Right now, Flare just winced when Gale gave the classic butt wriggle and leaped. Note to self, also nip that in the bud too. Flare watched from where he sat primly with his tail wrapped around his paws as Gale's paws hit the floor nowhere near the twig and his hindquarters kept moving.
He blinked at the mild 'thud' Gale's collision with the ground gave, but thankfully Gale seemed no worse for wear. A bit sheepish, if the smile he gave was any indication, but the same goofiness as always was there too. Flare's whiskers twitched in amusement as he answered, "No, no it didn't. Come on, up you get!" Flare got up and padded up to Gale, using his own nose to boost Gale up by his shoulder. "Crouch again and I'll show you where you went wrong."

Gale • Tom • 6 moons • Loner Gale gave a nod to his big brother and stood up, shaking the dust from his orange fur. His body might not be injured, but his ego was a little bruised from failing so spectacularly in front of Flare. Instead of bouncing back over into place, Gale walked slower and returned to the position he had been in when he pounced the first time, settling himself into the same stance he had used. He knew if anyone could show him the proper pounce, it was Flare.
Once again his chest was low to the ground, almost touching, and his paws were wide apart. Even just seeing the twig now had his rump wiggling, even though he wasn’t planning on pouncing. Shaking his head, he glanced over to Flare with big, round eyes full of hope that after this he’d be able to leap on top of the branch the exact way his big brother wanted him to.
