TCR uses a system based on real cat genetics for all of our characters. Due to this, any cat wishing to produce offspring requires a genotype. A genotype is a string of letters that tells us what genes a cat carries and how they express themselves in their appearance. When two cats have a litter, their genotypes are rolled together to create a random outcome for each kit, resulting in realistic litters!
As these can take some time and discussion to create, they generally aren’t assigned when the cat goes through initial approvals. Instead, the player must request a genotype for the character in the Genotype Request Thread and one will be created for the cat. Staff may message you about any specific requests you might have for the cat (eg. carrying the dilution gene even if not dilute), otherwise any genes which cannot be determined by appearance or heritage will be randomized.
Currently, the genes used in the game are as follows:
A more in-depth genetics guide is currently in progress, but in the meantime feel free to send any questions to Kaeldra.

Currently, the genes used in the game are as follows:
- O - base colour (black or red)
- B - brown (black/brown, chocolate, or cinnamon)
- D - dilute (grey and cream)
- Dm - dilute modifier (further changes dilutes)
- A - agouti (tabby)
- Ta - ticked tabby pattern
- Mc - mackerel tabby pattern
- Sp - spotted tabby pattern
- C - colour points (siamese, burmese, albino, etc)
- WS - white spotting (amount of white on cat, can vary widely)
- WD - dominant white (all white cats)
- L - fur length
- I - inhibitor gene (works with Wb)
- Wb - wide band gene (shaded, smoke, and tipped fur)
- Cu - curled back ears
- Fd - folded ears
- Jb - Japanese bobtail (short, stubby tail)
- Kur - Kurilian bobtail (short, stubby tail)
- M - manx (tailless)
- Mk - munchkin (short legs)
- Pd - polydactyl (extra toes on one or more paws)
