Snowbell
-We all move forward anyway. Ripples in all directions-
Heavy did the sun beat down through the autumn leaves and bricked walls of a twolegplace garden, transforming it from a barrier to the ideal sunning stone. Tendrils of trellised plants tickled the fur of those who rested at its flat peak. A plump black and white gib lay on his back, scratching his spine into the warm rock with a rickety purr. "So, are you sure? I can go with you, y'know." He meowed, stretching his legs out in an arch before flopping over to side in a huff.
A white queen sat beside him, paws tucked neatly beneath her twitching tail. Her gaze galloped through the woodland that lay just beyond their property. "I"m sure- Jerry, you need to make sure that camp is safe. Who knows what might be lurking about, trying to take *our* precious herbs." Her gaze flicked to her companion now, deep blue and full of a twinkling warmth. "I'll make sure to bring back a good haul! And I promise that I'll be safe too. I'll let out our battlecry if anything happens!"
"Hopefully you won't have to." Jerry sighed, smile on his maw. With a long stretch and yawn, he hefted himself to his feet and turned to the white queen. "Snowbell, best wishes on your solo mission!" He straightened his back as he spoke, eyes now bright with excitement. "On with you then, the sooner you go the sooner you can get back! I'm already excited to see whatcha'll bring. I'll keep an eye out here."
Snowbell leaned forward to touch noses with her housemate, before leaping from the brick wall. The uncut grass felt soft on her paws. Scents from within the woodland beckoned to her. Turning over her shoulder, she nodded to Jerry and waved her tail. He returned the gesture, and with their goodbyes said and done, Snowbell galloped into the wood.
It was rare that she would venture out beyond the garden walls, and each time was a thrill. Would she catch prey? Find plants for their poultices? Maybe even... run into another cat! Her thoughts raced as her paws did through the underbrush, sending early-fallen leaves scattering. The trees provided a dappled shade, the sunlight filtering through the canopy above and casting a mesmerizing pattern on the forest floor. The environment was so breathtakingly different within than from afar, she mused as she slowed to a trot.
Out of sight of the house now, she began her search. Though there were many options, she had one prize in mind today. Strawberries. Wild strawberries, the kind that the housefolk wouldn't get upset with you for using in poultices. With a keen eye she slowed her pace further, taking in the woodland around her. A breeze ruffled her coat, tickling the space beneath her collar. Snowbell smiled. What a lovely day to be out and about. Now, about those strawberries...
