P r o w l He/him | 50 Moons | RiverClan Warrior
Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine As was his newly-made routine, he woke up at the first strike of dawn, quickly washed his pelt with a few vigorous licks of his fur, and marched out to the river, his head and chest held high. As much as he hated to admit it, he missed marking borders and fending off intruders from his territory, back in his days as a rogue gang member. He missed the rigid, regimented schedule he adhered himself to, missed the overwhelming sense of accomplishment, like the satisfaction of a successful catch.
He carried those same thoughts as he urinated on the rock, on the other side of the riverbank, and then kicked out a cloud of dirt in case any of the urine may have gotten on to his legs. When he finished, he followed the direction and curvature of the river. The ground was softer here, he noted, as his pawsteps sunk slightly down instead of holding out firm like a grassy field did. Many of the borders were freshly made, most by him, so it took a lot of eyeballing to figure out the right measurements for the border. He had thought about the logistics—how would cats remember where to mark? How large could their territory without losing defensibility? What is the easiest way to mark the border?
It was only while he was making his way around the river’s bend, that he noticed a stranger from up the hill.

While not her favorite season, for the colors of the leaf moons would always have her heart, Elowen welcomed the comforting embrace; at least until the heat became a little too much. But Elowen was not there to savor the sun. [break][break] The young feline was a rather contradictory sight as she neared a rising slope. Her scrapes and scars, fresh and old, gave the impression of someone tough and experienced. Yet her countenance spoke only of a soft, apprehensive curiosity as she travelled. Even so, the fresher scrapes on her flank did not seem to bother her, despite the slight sting with each step. [break][break] While claw marks were not a common occurrence for her — that one cat had been terribly unhospitable — Elowen was no stranger to a few scrapes. She had tended to them with thorough care, and while she had little experience with herbs, she at least knew how to keep a wound clean and healthy as it healed. Beyond that, Elowen was simply...used to it. [break][break] At least she had gotten some fascinating information before that altercation. [break][break] Now, if Elowen had gotten the direction right from a slightly more friendly cat, then just over the hill should be...Elowen froze. One sight made her gasp, and the other shot icy fear through her veins. Before her, at least within calling distance, was the largest cat she had ever seen. Mind, Elowen did not know many. With dark, thick fur and a confident posture, the cat was surely intimidating. But they were not what frightened her. [break][break] Even as Elowen lowered her ears and tail in peaceable submission to the stranger, it was the river behind them that held her gaze. She could hardly hear it from where she had now begun to crouch, but even the sight sent fur prickling along her spine. Perhaps the cat might come to her? Elowen dreaded approaching the beast of nature.

P r o w l He/him | 50 Moons | RiverClan Warrior
Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine His yellow-green eyes studying the stranger, he deliberated on what his next move should be. But he figured that, as a new warrior of RiverClan, he needed to prove his loyalty to others. And what better way to do exactly that than to enforce the borders which had been previously neglected? So then it was settled.
Keeping an eye on the intruder as he moved, he crossed the stepping stones to the other side of the river. Then he marched to the intruder, head and chest held up high, as if to emphasize the height difference between him and the dark brown tabby. His bushy tail swept the underbrush aside as he approached the top of the hill.
Now standing only a few tail-lengths away, Prowl noticed their position of submission—the droop of their ears, the tail beneath their legs. He wanted to sneer at them, laugh at how quickly and eagerly they were to concede to a fight that hadn’t even begun. Though, Prowl would have won regardless.
He stood firmly in the ground with his paw pressed to the soft dirt, speaking slow and clear, “What is your business, intruder? Are you seeking trouble, or have you somehow come to learn of the clan nestled inside rivers?”

Though bright, those eyes held little warmth. As she stood atop the knoll in peaceable silence, the looming figure straightened, approaching with a smooth confidence that spoke volumes. They were in charge here. In charge of what, Elowen could not hazard a guess. Perhaps merely this encounter. [break][break] No matter the case, Elowen maintained her posture of slight submission. [break][break] The stranger spoke with a slow, deliberate clarity that had Elowen immediately rapt, if not in slight for the desire of a distraction. One she would not get. Her eyes had wandered briefly astray as they had crossed the stones with ease, but there seemed to be no avoiding it. Rivers. The small patchwork tabby tried not to recoil at the word, its pluralization all the more daunting. Elowen's mouth ran dry, but she willed her whiskers not to quiver. [break][break] A silence hung between them a breath too long as Elowen sought something to say, something that evaded the topic of that threatening liquid rage. Peering up at the larger feline, her brain chose to depart her mouth. [break][break] "You're huge..." Though blurted thoughtlessly, the words were more breathed than spoken. Elowen cringed. Promptly backtracking, Elowen gave a shake of her head. "Sorry, that must have been rude. I-" She hesitated, uncertain where to go from there. His own words echoed in her mind, omitting their conclusion. "Yes, I- um. Could I know more...about this clan?" [break][break] Despite her clear nervousness, there was a glimmer of eager curiosity in Elowen's eyes as she spoke the strange word. She tested it, the bluntness of it, the taste of it on her tongue. Such an odd word. This must be that cat group she had heard of, with the healers of old. Or perhaps one of them? Elowen was uncertain if there were more than one.

P r o w l He/him | 50 Moons | RiverClan Warrior
Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine It was simply so… amusing, how cats would go on spattering nervously all over the place like a leaking pipe. He supposed his tactics of intimidation hadn’t went away after all; there were some skills he could never forget. That knowledge satisfied him. And though he desperately wanted to laugh, he suppressed the urge. The sound of his stormy laughter would no doubt scare her off like thunder does to a dog. For her sake, he would show a semblance of mercy. He opted for a restrained smile, no more than a slight, upward curve in his lips.
“Huge? Am I?” Prowl said sarcastically. The amusement died when his expression hardened, and his gaze narrowed at the stranger. “Perhaps I will consider telling you about the clan, if you introduce yourself and your interest in the clan. For example, how did you come to hear of the us?”
He sat down in front of her. “I can start first. My name is Prowl, and I am a member of RiverClan, the clan you are looking for.”

[break] | [attr="class","fatecontainer2temp1"] [break][break] [attr="class","fatecontenttemp1"] To Elowen's great relief, the stranger did not anger at her blurted words. Large and intimidating, certainly, but perhaps this was a sign they were at least not unkind. The ever so slight smile, the amusement in those pale eyes, sent a ripple of relief through her. It did not last. [break][break] Indeed, Elowen's posture had only just begun to relax slightly when the stranger's eyes hardened. Honed and sharp, his observation felt like claws just barely grazing skin. A warning. Call her paranoid, perhaps. But she had not been lying. The biggest and oldest cat she had seen so far, and there was no light or gentle air about them. Elowen tensed but did not flee. She watched as he sat. [break][break] It was then that Elowen realized she had broken Arthek's first rule. Introductions. How could she be so foolish? Certainly, she knew precious few cats, but surely it was a simple task, right? For a moment, Elowen's thoughts floundered, and she scrabbled to collect them before she made a fool of herself again. She thanked whatever mercy saw him speaking first. By the time it was her turn, Elowen had found her voice. [break][break] "I'm Elowen. No one, really," she said, chuckling nervously. "But I...I heard stories of older times with these... big groups of cats. Like big families, taking care of each other, with great leaders and healers." The waver to Elowen's voice lessened as she went on, eyes somewhat distant in the memory of her caretaker, but sparkling. She tugged herself back to the present, skimming that pale gaze shyly as she caught her rambling. "I heard that there was a group of cats here like that, then someone told me where to look, and I thought, maybe I could...learn more?" [break][break] Even as Elowen's talk trailed off to a hesitant question, there was hope in her own yellow eyes. With her part of his offer fulfilled, Elowen finally sat across from him. Her forepaws shuffled uneasily as she tucked them close, tail wrapping over them until she struck a small silhouette. Yet she remained, despite her pulsing nerves, still eager.

P r o w l He/him | 50 Moons | RiverClan Warrior
Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine Sigh His nose was poised to the air with an air of domineering assertion. Certainly, he sniffed the stranger’s scent here and there, but he was mainly interested as appearing as large as possible. And thus far, his intimidation tactics were working! Too easily, in his opinion. Prowl needed more of a challenge than this, but he was also aware that he needed to his claws sheathed and his teeth concealed by his lips. No point in scaring off cats, when he could just as easily make them recruits of RiverClan, of which was still needed to bolster the clan’s numbers.
“Elowen,” he repeated with a brief nod. He sized her up, bordering her in a semi-circle shape and then paused to nod again. In his hesd, he was planning out how the conversation with Shellspots was going to go. Well, ideally, though it seemed most of her time was spent arguing with that useless deputy of hers, Flare. “A fine name, Elowen. You have given a good reason to join, but now I ask, what would you offer our clan?”
As Elowen spoke of longing to be part of a family, Prowl fought the urge to roll his eyes. It was always the same story, wasn’t? Some grandeur and noble motivation for joining a group. Home, family, community, whatever. He’d heard it all before, and found himself apathetic and numb to her words, when they were supposed to stir meaningful feelings in his stomach. Of course, polite conversation dictated a nod or an ear-flick to show he was listening, and so he did so. He fancied himself an avid listener, even if he barely cared to hear what she was saying.
“I might let you into camp, but I believe we must confer with another cat—” Just as he started speaking, he spotted another cat padding along the river’s edge. “Violet?”

violet Patrol duty was not at the top of Violet's list of favorite Clan responsibilities. Maybe it was just because it was unfamiliar to her and her previous way of life, but the job seemed too...aggressive wasn't the right word, but it felt odd to try and mark a place where others weren't allowed. After all, weren't they, as a Clan, trying to recruit members, not scare them away? All in all, Violet was willing to admit that she was a little more relaxed than some of her peers when it came to patrolling. Which was why she felt good about being paired with Prowl; he always seemed enthusiastic about the task—or maybe that wasn't a good word for it either. Driven? He was a very serious individual, which Violet admired, though she was curious about where all that drive was directed. As if summoned by her thoughts, Prowl's voice rung out from a distance. Violet was too far away to hear exactly what he was saying; was he talking to her, or was there someone else here? Intrigued, she padded back along the river until he was once again in sight. He was not alone. A smaller, fluffy tabby stood next to him looking somewhat tense. She looks young, thought Violet, as she got closer. She nodded in acknowledgement to Prowl. "Did you find a new clanmate out here, Prowl?" she asked, before remembering she should probably be more suspicious of trespassers. She always had trouble remembering that anyone could trespass, that that was the whole point of having a territory. Well, too late to worry about that now, Violet thought. Prowl doesn't look too aggressive right now, so everything's probably fine. She turned her attention to the newcomer. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure how far along we are into introductions." A self-effacing laugh. "I'm Violet, it's nice to meet you."

[break] | [attr="class","fatecontainer2temp1"] [break][break] [attr="class","fatecontenttemp1"] Elowen's ears pricked up as Prowl echoed her name. It rolled off of his tongue to greet her ears ever so curiously. It was strange to hear it spoken by a voice not her own again, especially when only one other cat had said it before. Stranger still were his next words. A fine name? Elowen blinked in surprise at the compliment. "Th-thank you," she said, stunned. It was fortunate, perhaps, he was so quick to return to business. [break][break] What could she offer? Elowen hesitated for a moment, uncertain of what answer he might be looking for. But she had to try. She would not be alive if she had nothing to offer, right? So, she straightened a little, even if she did not meet Prowl's gaze directly. "I can hunt. I was taught for five moons, and I've managed to feed myself fine ever since." A pause. Was food enough? From the looks of this cat, surely, he hunted just fine. "I don't mind what tasks I do, really, and I'm willing to learn anything I need to." [break][break] This time, Elowen met his gaze. She hoped her willingness to learn was clear in her eyes, that he could see she wanted this and was willing to help others any way she could. She just wanted to belong. She had been alone too long now, and she missed the feel of even just one body against hers, much less a family. Before Elowen could attempt to drive her case further, Prowl began speaking words that had her hopes rising. Only to cut off. [break][break] Ears flicking, Elowen turned her head to see another cat approaching. Not as large as Prowl, but seemingly no younger - maybe older even - and eye-catchingly graceful. As those stunning blue eyes turned on her, Elowen found her filter lost a second time. "You're really pretty." Elowen noticed her slip-up a heartbeat too late and stiffened, gaze averting shyly as she registered the kind greeting. [break][break] "I'm Elowen," she managed to return. After a moment, Elowen noticed another missing piece. What words was she to use for these cats? They both carried female scents, but Elowen's own scent did little to reflect her. Lifting her head again, Elowen glanced uncertainly between the pair. "Excuse me, um...Are you queens, or toms? Or neither! It’s just, well, you smell like queens...but I smell like a tom, and I’m not a tom, so...I just want to get that right, ya know?" [break][break] Paws shuffling nervously, Elowen ducked her head again. Was that too personal? She hoped she was not crossing a line, breaching a question so few ever asked, but she felt more comfortable knowing.

P r o w l He/him | 50 Moons | RiverClan Warrior
Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine Sigh “Ah, we could always do with another hunter,” Prowl mused. Violet padded to his side after he called for her attention. With another pair of eyes on their smaller newcomer, perhaps they could come to a satisfactory conclusion. Based on Elowen’s admission of having hunted for herself since five moons, he wondered if that meant she came from a wild-born background, as opposed to being raised as a kittypet. That prospect made her a more appealing candidate for RiverClan.
“We were just exchanging names and talking about the possibility of Elowen joining the clan. We’re in need of more members, that’s for certain,” he said to Violet. He flicked an ear at Elowen. “She says she wants to be part of a group of cats who takes care of each other, she is able to hunt, and she is willing to learn new skills. What are your thoughts thus far?”
He answered shortly to Elowen, and without further space for discussion, “I am a tom.”

violet Violet was delighted at Elowen's outburst. "Well aren't you a little charmer!" she purred. "Thank you, dear. And may I say that you make a fine picture yourself."She retreated a bit, noticing the shy stance Elowen had adopted. Don't be too overbearing, Violet reminded herself. She dipped her head in acknowledgment of the greeting, and kept her opinions of Elowen's name to herself. It's a very lovely and unique name, she thought, But I don't want to overwhelm the poor thing with compliments."Joining the clan?" Violet asked excitedly, momentarily forgetting her resolution to calm down. It was just such an exciting prospect; another youngster to befriend both her own litter and the other apprentices of RiverClan. She nodded along as Prowl listed off Elowen's resume. "Sounds like a good fit," she said, nodding to him before turning her smile back towards Elowen. "How did you hear of us, if I might ask?" It seemed like Prowl had already done most of the legwork of recruiting, but Violet wanted to do her part as well. Elowen's next question surprised Violet, mostly because it was something she so rarely though about herself. Even though some of her clanmates did identify differently from what their scent might indicate, Violet had grown accustomed to those particular individuals—Prowl, for example, she was so used to thinking of as a tom that the need to question it had caught her off guard. His appropriately no-nonsense response seemed so obvious to her, but she appreciated that Elowen had asked; Violet herself likely would not have. "And I'm a queen," she finally answered. "Though I might smell a bit like fish," she added, thinking wistfully of her last meal.

This might be good. Better, even. [break][break] Elowen found herself fortunate with these strangers. Once again, her outburst was received without annoyance. If anything, the new feline seemed quite pleased, offering a compliment in return. Elowen was not sure what to do with that, really. A fine picture? A charmer? She assumed those were good things, based on the purr-laden tone. [break][break] A response still evading her, Elowen was relieved when Prowl started explaining the situation to Violet. With some of the focus eased off, Elowen listened intently as they spoke. Prowl sounded no more enthusiastic than ever but seemed to have no issues with her. Violet, on the other paw, seemed almost as eager as Elowen felt. This really was looking good. She had a chance here. [break][break] "My guardian told me lots of stories. Mostly about great healers, but also the groups they lived in!" Elowen answered quickly, resisting the urge to bounce like a kit as excitement buzzed through her veins. "I always wanted to join one, and then I heard about your clan group here and I just had to find out more." [break][break] Despite Elowen's apprehension, her question was answered easily. Answer short and sharp, Prowl's gender opposed his scent, just like hers did. Violet's response was lighter, but just as simple. Elowen relaxed, blinking happily as she committed the two to mind. "I'm a queen too," she affirmed. [break][break] Unable to resist, Elowen giggled at Violet's joke, sniffing the air slightly. "You do!" Tongue swiping reflexively, Elowen considered. "I haven't had fish in ages. Arthek was good at swimming, but not fish catching."

Thunder 4, 2021 | Celestine Sigh “Fascinating,” remarked Prowl with feigned interest out of respect for Elowen’s enthusiasm. He could understand wanting to join a larger group—it was practical on the matter of security and survivor and fulfilled a necessity to be around others—but there needn’t always be a grander reason, beyond its proposed benefits, did there? He kept his thoughts to himself, only dipping a head politely. “RiverClan will certainly welcome new additions to our ranks, especially those who can hunt.”
Since the atmosphere remained pleasant and friendly, there seemed no objections and no more stipulations to prevent Elowen from joining. “It sounds like we are in agreement to letting you join, or at the least, allow you to meet our leader, Shellspots. She will be the one with the final decision, but I’m sure you’ll be received with high regards.”
“There will be plenty more fish around here,” he said with a gesture of his tail to the river. He padded to the start of the stepping stones leading to RiverClan camp.

violet These youngsters and their love of stories, though Violet, reminded of her eldest. Flare and his passion for tales of the Clans—the same tales, it seemed, that Elowen had been privy to—were what had drawn Violet and her whole family to RiverClan in the first place. It was oddly reassuring to hear that others joining them did so with similar motivations. "If you love the stories, then you'll certainly fit in!" Violet chirruped, trying to match Elowen's well-contained yet obvious excitement. "I bet you'd get along great with Flare. He's a bit older than you, but—" She abruptly avoided telling the still somewhat skittish Elowen how much her enthusiasm reminded her of Flare's. That would probably be laying it on a bit too thick, she conceded, and finished with a more moderated, "You could probably share some great stories with each other."Out of the corner of her eye, Violet noticed Prowl's muted yet respectful distance from the enthusiasm she and Elowen shared. Variety is the spice of life, she reminded herself. Not everyone had to be a dreamer; in fact, it was probably better that RiverClan had someone as down-to-earth as Prowl. She mirrored his nod, glad that he was there to balance out her social charm with his more logical recruitment methods. Violet was also glad that her response to Elowen's question of gender had gone over well. She always worried she was making light of things that were important to others—both related and unrelated to gender—but Elowen's giggle reassured her. It was satisfying to have a joke go over well, even if it was a tad self-deprecating. "Yes, you'll be cured of your fishlessness soon, I'm sure," she said agreeably. "I didn't know anything about catching fish for the longest time, but luckily I had some good teachers. Like Prowl said, we'd certainly welcome another skilled hunter."As Prowl took the lead to start them back on the way to camp, Violet fell in line, trying not to seem too eager to return back to camp and await Elowen's reception.
