Date Prey Moon 2, 2021|@ Secret tail lashed as she slowly crept along the marsh floor. Mud new and old stuck in her long coat, in the bright golden sunset her rusted black coat almost looked completely red. Her bright yellow eyes were trained on a vole, She needed this. Her stomach growled, she should've waited. She sprung off for the vole, it noticed almost immediately and sprinted off. And the chase began.
Her and vole sped through the marsh, weaving and twisting through the bush. Nearly avoiding rocks, sticks, and other such things that would slow them. Every time she almost cought it she slipped in the slick mud, each the the vole would barely be out of her grasp. Her sides heaved, she was losing steam.
"C-COME ON!" She yelled as she tried to grab it for what like the hundredth time. She was getting desperate. Her claws wrapped around the vole, she would've shouted in joy if she didn't face plant into the mud.
"Agh!" She cried out as her face was submerged the into the mud. She splintered as she rolled, trying her best the keep a grip on the small animal. As she splashed into another pool of mud and slime the vole poped out of her paws.
"N-NO!" She immediately tried to get out, but something around her back leg pulled her back. She whipped her head around, her leg was tangled in a ball of leaves, sticks, and roots.
"No,no,no,no,no,no. THIS-this can't be- This can't be happening!" She tried desperately to pull herself out, clawing at the wet, slimely ground. but only managing to cake mud under her claws, and between her paws. As she saw the vole had long vanished she went limp.
"Please." She sniffed wetly "Just come back" she closed her eyes.
...
It seemed like a eternity had passed before she heard the lone, sharp, snap in the marsh. Her head shot up, her yellow eyes searched around the dark marsh. The sun had long since gone down.
"Hello?" She yelled out, panicked. Her eyes darted left to right. "I-i don't mean any tro-trouble" her ears twitched, trying to pick up any sounds rather than her wrapped heartbeat, and sharp shallow breaths.
Is this where she died?

Stellar the Guardian Angel |
"We are not BAD people. We just came from a BAD place." |
The thing about the Marshes is that it can be a rather tricky place for someone who did not know their way around it. It changed with the weather. In the unyielding heat of Greenleaf when the heat makes the water evaporate a few inches and cause flies and other insects to swarm or it could flood inches above the roots that jut from the mud of the scarcely spotted trees that grow among the lands in the rainy seasons of New Leaf. Many critters live here from small rodents to swamp fish, from vultures even to the smallest of insects. One would not think to find much life here - but there is. Especially, at night when the stars come out. Owls seekings the mice and voles that like to scurry around for food when the daylight prey sleep to the water snakes searching for nests that house said sleeping animals.
Stellar was familiar enough with the marshes. It smelled bad and she preferred the forest where she could not be fearful of one wrong step causing her injury or even death but she came out here for one particular reasons and that was to find cobwebs and moss. She enjoyed taking the moss from the marshes because although it was wet when dried it was more of a spongy texture and held it's bouncing like formation that made it great for nesting material and cobwebs could be used to store the moister of berries as much as it could to help sop up any blood from wounds. Sure she was no healer by trait. She knew just enough to be useful and survive - she much preferred the thrill of the chase to keep herself active. But even still, she needed these items from time to time.
Tonight might have not been the best time to go find these items though. Having been so busy tidying up her little nook of the forest she called home she'd wasted precious daylight - she really needed to get going. So with sure and swift footing the silver tabby darted breezily across the lands - finding rocks, fallen branches, and the scarceness of trees to guide her path through the marshes to a place where she knew she could find at least the moss. With the darkness as a hinderence she really did have to be careful; her skill for being light on her feet did little here now though as her paws snapped over twigs and branches as she ambled along. And then she heard it.
At first she thought it was an owl calling out into the night; they did have a particular sound they made but the thing is owls don't talk and the sounds she heard was a voice indeed! Dear ancestors above was there a cat stuck in this place of all areas? The feline followed the sound - keeping herself to as many trees as she could until she saw the gleam of eyes in the darkness of night that the moon reflected from. She couldn't see much else of the feline so it had to be a dark form. Poor thing. Was it lost? She climbed down the tree carefully but as the earth sank wetly beneath her weight she grimace feeling it coating her paws and lower legs.
"You certainly got yourself into a little trap here haven't you?" her voice was sympathetic as she greeted the other; peering around to get a hold of the situation. "What on earth are you doing out here this late? Don't you know the marshes are no place for felines at night?" Stellar mumbled as she waded her way to the edge trying to find a good vantage point.
"Here, let me see if I can't find a branch for you to grab onto." the silver tabby wondered how long the poor feline had been stuck in the mud.
Finding a fallen branch nearby she grabbed it; mentally groaning at the gross smell of the bog scent stuck on the half muddy stick and waded a few steps over holding it out. "Come on then!" she mumbled through the bark in jaws as she tried to keep the branch steady while digging her claws into whatever solid purchase she could to help pull the other out of the mud pit.

Date Prey Moon 2, 2021|@ Secret stared at the she-cat, deep into her eyes yellow eyes. Similar to her own, but different. More lively. Secret cowered back ever so slightly.
"Come on then!" The she-cat called to her, muffled by the wood. Secret took in a sharp breath, grabbing onto the branch. The gray she-cat, with those vibrant eyes, began to pull her out. Secrets claws dug into the ground, holding the branch in her teeth with all her might. She gasped quietly has the vined up gunk released her leg. Mud caked her whole body, she hated the feeling as in squished underneath and into her paws. But she was determined to get out, determined to live at least one more day.
She popped out of the mud pool, with a gasp of relief. As soon as her paws were out she scrambled to more solid land. She fell limp down on the solid ground, breathing heavily. Trying to get the mud out of eyes, ears, and mouth. She did it! She survived! She was really going to okay, at least for today! She- wait. Her body went ridgid remember the other she cat, she snapped her head back behind. She was still there. Those bright lively eyes were still there, connected to that beautiful gray fur, stained by mud and muk.
"Oh no.." Secret said breathlessly, curling up into a small ball. She had no idea what to do, just make yourself small as possible is all she could think of. "T-tha..Thank you. For... Rescuing me." She mumbled quietly. Trying to not stair directly at her.
...
"I'm so, so sorry for inconveniencing you, miss." Secret said after awhile.

"We are not BAD people. We just came from a BAD place." |
Poor thing. Stellar thought as she gazed down at the blob in front of her. Thick muck all over the smaller feline; all up in her nose and smeared along her face. How long as the she-cat been out here? She looked so small and young. The tabby shook her head and took a step closer towards the other as she huddled in a ball on the ground catching their breath as much as they were trying to hide away from her presence.
"No need to thank me; you were stuck in there pretty good though. What on earth were you doing out here alone?" she fussed as she began trying to wipe as much excess mud from the smaller female as she could.
"Are you hurt anywhere? I can help...I know a thing or two about healing." she flashed a small smile as she worked on trying to clean the other up.
If Stellar hadn't come across her when she had how long would this poor youngling have survived out here? If the predators that lurked during nightfall didn't catch her then the exhaustion of being stuck in the mud pit would have surely done her in. It was no sink hole but mud was strong despite it's gooby texture and once down without help a cat could seriously die in a place like this. Maybe Stellar should count her lucky stars she'd wasted most of her day that forced her to come out here this late or else that poor cat would most likely have died.
"I'm Stellar by the way." she gave the other a warm smile. "I live around here. Are you local or just passing through?" she couldn't smell the other's scent very well due to the earthy headiness of the mud stench but Stellar had come across many cats passing by before; maybe this was one of them returning? Tilting her head she took a step back.
"We should get you cleaned up properly; my nest is not too far away. Can you walk? I-if not we can rinse you off in that pond over there but it's not as clean as the water near my nesting." Stellar said glancing around the area in the dark; not even flinching when a bat flew overhead. She needed to get the other to a safe place to help clean her up, feed her, and let her rest before any more questions should be asked but Stellar couldn't help herself. The other looked so scared and her instincts told her to step up to help her.

Date Prey 2, 2021 | Galaria"I- i- I, uhm-" Secret stuttered, she felt absolutely bombarded with questions. Witch should she answer first? She didn't really know the answer to most of the, should she lie? Should she tell the truth? Would that lead to more questions she didn't know how to answer? She had no idea if she was local or just passing through, she had been here for almost a moon, that must mean she's local right? But maybe not. Why was she out here- to get food yes, but she doesn't like this muddy place, why did she stay here?
Did she have a name, the closest thing she had was 'Secret' but was that truly her name? All she knew was the pond was bad. She pulled away from the She-Cat and shaked her head so hard mud went flying everywhere, and she felt dizzy.
"No,no,no,no,no, the pond- the pond is bad, bad, bad. Very bad. Please, don't make me go back in the pond, I don't want to go back in the pond!"
Secret got up, backing up a few steps quickly, shutting her eyes as tight as possible. Maybe she should just run for it? The other cats were mean, they wouldn't share their food and chased her off, what would be different about Stellar?
Maybe, just maybe, if she answered her other questions, Secret wouldn't have to go back into the pond. She tucked her tail under her legs, and pinned her ears back.
"I-i don't know! I don't know, if I'm local or not! I don't know if I'm hurt anyway! I don't why I'm here, I don't like this place, but I don't like the rock path with the loud smelly monsters even more! I don't know! I just don't want to go back into the pond!"
Secret shouted, panting afterwards. Her body shaked and she felt tear prick at her eyes. But she didn't want to look at Stellar, she most likely made the She-Cat upset.

Stellar the Guardian Angel |
"We are not BAD people. We just came from a BAD place." |
The silver tabby's inquiries and fussiness were received with panic making her face go from comfort to wary concern. Too many questions too soon then! She gave the feline a few more steps away to give her breathing room and she quickly ducked down; crouching on the ground so she seemed less threatening and spoke with a calm intentional voice as if soothing a frightened animal, which literally she was.
"Hey, hey it's okay, no pond. I promise." she soothed quickly scanning the other for any injuries; she couldn't tell from beneath the muck but she really did need to get out of here and somewhere where she would get into a panic mode again.
"Why don't we go to my nest okay? I can give you a bath, no pond or deep water. I'll get some moss and soak it in water and just wipe you down." she said as if speaking to a frightened child. "It's safe and warm and far enough from the water you'll be just fine. I can catch some food for us too and if you don't want me to you can take control and bathe yourself but we must really get that mud off of you; you'll feel much better." she said and looked around.
Her lack of knowledge of who she was and where she was concerned the other; did she have some sort of amnesia or did she just panic and couldn't remember? It's okay, whatever the reason was the first step was to get out of here and to a safer spot for her to calm down. It honestly didn't matter if she was a passerby or someone who had lived out here for a while, Stellar was more concerned about making sure she was okay firsthand. Further questions could be asked later once Secret had some food, a bath, and some rest. Stellar's herbs could wait.
"Let's stand up and see if you can walk." She made sure to word it differently so Secret couldn't get frightened and muddle-brained as much as she was muddy physically. She slowly rose to her paw and backed up a few steps and paused waiting to see what the other would do.
It was not her first rodeo to find hurt felines around, she prided in knowing enough to keep others alive and had even helped save a life or two so she was confident she would help Secret. "I promise, Secret. You're safe with me." she told the other felines with a soft look. template by Magpie of Adoxography
