Clover found herself flustered again as Flare reached out with a paw to ruffle her fur playfully, and looked away shyly. He was proud of her! Of course, she still had a long way to go, and the difference between her skill level and his was only exaggerated when he fell easily from the tree to land beside her, not bothering to be as careful and calculated as she was. Still, she glowed with the praise.
At the mention of the next lesson though, she shrunk a little. Clover didn’t think she was ready for anything more than she had already done, and she wanted to practice some more – a lot more – in hopes of becoming even half as fluid as he was. Maybe if she tried really hard, she could impress him…
Shaking her head, she smiled at the joke of her “big step” and also at his easy way of offering her an out. He really was considerate, wasn’t he?
“I could go for a shrew,” she admitted. “All that talking really worked up my appetite! But…” Clover looked down at her paws again, hesitating. “Once I get better at climbing up and down, would you be up for another lesson some other time?” The fluffy she-cat chanced a glance up, meeting his gaze hopefully.
