Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Since leaving her family, Clementine hadn't been one to stay in one place for long. She liked to continue on her travels, seeing what new things she could discover. That said, she was rather fond of this barn. She'd been lucky to find it, unoccupied and absolutely teeming with mice, even now that the weather was starting to cool and prey outside the barn was becoming scarce. There seemed to be a few interesting cats in the area, too, so she wasn't in any hurry to move on.
Rolling on her side, the calico wiggled herself deeper into the pile of hay she'd been sleeping on. The inside of the barn was quiet as always, the scuffling of small creatures the only noise. So why was she awake? It wasn't uncommon for her to be awake in the middle of the night, but she'd been wandering the moors earlier that day and had returned exhausted, collapsing into the soft straw nest she'd assembled. No, she'd definitely heard something that had woken her.
Moments later, she heard it again. It was a strange scratching sound, too loud and deliberate to be a mouse or shrew. Lifting herself to her paws, she padded to the barn entrance to investigate. Hopefully it would at least be something interesting.

Excited to see who/what it is, I'm up for anyone to join in! Even a couple cats might be fun

She was tired; that much of evident. Her pads were sore from the long days walk and her head was hurting from the strain her eyes had done today searching and ever being alert. She hadn't rested much today during her travels. Instead, she'd sought out a plant that she knew would give her strength. She thought she'd have to stop to sleep under a bush or worst case she'd have to continue walking all night until she found shelter. Thankfully, whoever was watching out for her above gave her grace in the form of a large dark building looming ahead of her. The scent on the air was stale so she knew no large animals had been here for a while and no two legs for that matter. So she knew she should be safe.
The bundle she carried made her jaws ache from having to have them clamped down all day around the wrap of leaf she had the plants she carried with her on her journey and she would be happy to let it rest so she herself could get some sleep. She did not bother to scent the air as she drew nearer to the gaping black arch of the entrance to the abandoned building so she did not realize right away that she was not alone. She did not even cover her paw steps that crackled on the old and dry grass and hay on the ground in front.
A motion stirred in the looming darkness as she neared and it startled her so much that she'd dropped her wrapped leaf with her herbs in it making them spill everywhere. She took a step back in surprise and looked down as if the sight of the mess of flower buds, stalks, and roots caused her pain. She began frantically pawing at them trying to get them back into the leaf that lay by her paws.
She stopped long enough to look up when she heard the paw steps and looked up into the eyes of another feline. She froze wondering if this cat was hostile or not. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to trespass. I was just trying to find a place to rest. I can leave, of course, just let me gather my plants real quick." she said continuing to paw them into a bundle not caring if they mixed at this point. She just didn't want to have to deal with a fight; not that she didn't know how to fight to protect herself, she just preferred to not fight if she could help it. She had been alone for so long she was skittish when it came to new people at first not knowing if they would be friendly or hostile.

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons As Clementine padded into the bright moonlight from the shadows of the barn, she could make out the shape of a sleek she-cat. She had obviously been startled by Clementine's appearance, having scattered her bundle of... plants? Hm. The calico's ears twitched with curiosity as she watched the grey she-cat scrabble at the ground, hurriedly scraping them back into a pile on a big leaf it looked like she had used to wrap them together. Then she looked up, met Clementine's gaze, and took a defensive stance while still pawing the leaves and stalks back into place.
"What plants are those? I don't recognize them," she interrupted the other cat as she promised to take her leave. It wasn't Clemetine's barn; she was just staying here for a bit until the weather got better. If this she-cat wanted to stay here the night as well, it wasn't any business of hers. As long as she didn't hog all the prey, which would be difficult given how many mice were still scuttling about in the hay. In fact, she was rather curious about what she could be doing with those plants. Clementine had heard of some cats who knew how to use herbs to heal or even to cause harm, but none of the cats she had met before knew much about them.
She stepped aside in the entryway, allowing the grey she-cat to come inside if she wanted to. The calico waited to see what the stranger would do, her yellow eyes glowing in the moonlight. Her fluff made her appear quite a bit bigger than this lithe cat, and Clementine wondered if she would be too intimidated to stay.

She was going to make a quick exit, or at least that's what she told herself. She'd just scrabble together her herbs and dart away with an apology. She had it planned all out on her head. But, then unknowingly this feline; a female loner Miku came to realize as soon as she spoke, this she-cat had unknowingly just dug herself a grave. No, not a death grave; Miku would never stoop to kill another being unless she had no other option. But metaphorically she dug her a grave because she asked a question that made the grey feline pause and look up. Her eyes hid an emotion that was hard to decipher at first as she tried to hold back her excitement from within but when she saw the other truly did seem curious and not having asked the question to make fun at Miku's expense gave the slim feline a giddy feeling of relief and excitement.
Sitting up from where she'd been crouched she steadied her movements knowing now that she was not being run off. Carefully she nudged and poked through the bundle. "Well! I'm glad you asked, this here root that looks like a tall stemmed thistle is called Burdock Root! I found it's great when I chewed it up and put on the pads of my paws after long walks without rest! I'd stumbled upon them by their sharp and strong scent when I was looking for food and ate some of it by accident. Gave me such a belly ache! But these leaves here that look like fern leaves helped with that tummy ache! It's called Chervil! Oooh oh and this cute bundle of what flowers with the yellow centers is called Chamomile which helps soothe the mind and help calm me down when I get too anxious or stressed. It's a pretty good traveling herb too! Oh and-" she looked up at the calico and froze realizing she was rambling and sheepishly bundled the rest of her herbs up and tucked it under her legs.
"I'm sorry, I find plants very fascinating so whenever anyone asks about them I get so excited to talk about them." she flushed in embarrassment.
She noticed that her new companion had stepped aside and she briefly wondered if she had been silently invited in. Looking up at the stars and moon above her she decided it would be alright to slip inside for a few hours to rest before being on her way. The other loner did not seem to mind her company so Miku picked up her bundle and briskly padded through into the shadows of the barn. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the new darkness before she could make out the form of the inside of the barn.
"Do you live here?" she asked around the bundle in her mouth.

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Rather than being intimidated, the she-cat seemed... excited? There was a heartbeat of silence as the two stared at each other, and then the she-cat was animatedly pointing out the different plants and all of their uses. She definitely seemed to know her herbs, at least. It was certainly useful information; Clementine was no stranger to sore pads after a long trek or an aching belly from eating prey that was just a little too old. But though she tried to absorb at least a bit of what this cat was saying, most of the words went in one ear and right out the other. Her whiskers twitched in amusement as the she-cat seemed to catch herself, stopping mid-ramble and scooping the rest of the herbs together quietly.
"I don't mind," Clementine grinned. "As long as you don't expect me to remember it all. I hardly remember my own name some days," the calico joked, though it was truer than one might think. Most of the time she went by her birth name, Clementine. But occasionally, when she felt it was better to remain a bit more anonymous, she would invent a new persona on the fly and after a while it became difficult to keep all the details straight in her head.
As her visitor picked up her bundle and trotted ahead into the darkness, Clementine took the opportunity to pad back over to her nest of hay, making it clear that this space, at least, was hers. The grey cat was welcome to any other comfortable nooks or crannies she was able to find.
"In a sense, I guess you could say so," the fluffy she-cat hummed. "Though I haven't been here long; maybe two moons now? I'll probably move on once newleaf arrives, but it's rather cozy for the time being. Are you from around here?" She added on a question of her own, determined not to give out more information than she got back. While she hadn't seen her parents in moons and would rather keep it that way, that was one rule of theirs that she had to admit was very practical: know more about them than they know about you.

Miku's obession wasn't something people understood a lot of the time which she did not blame them. She considered it a daily reminder that she was different than others; but she knew in the end, her little, well big obsession and hobby that she has would save lives one day. Maybe not now or anytime soon but if she lived a long and prosperous life she knew down the road her skills would be needed someday so it was alright in her mind that others didn't undestand her; she'd get the last laugh. The calico that stood before her did not seem to mind Miku's ramblings and it made her feel a little more at ease around the other. So, this stranger was curious, nice, and did not mind her oddity. That was a good plus in Miku's books. As she trotted on behind the other into the shadows of the barn Miku looked around the space with curiousity of her own in her eyes. Two moons by herself here? Wasn't it lonely? That was something that Miku knew well of though, loneliness. The grey she-cat smiled slightly at the other who had taken a place on a pile of hay that she'd been previously no doubt.
"That sounds like a lonely life. I assume you don't have many visitors then?" the herbologist commented as picked a spot in an abandoned trough that had some hay in it still outside a stall wall and settled her bundle of herbs in one corner of the trough as she herself began to pad down the prickly dry hay to make a more comfortable bedding nest for herself.
"Oh me? No, not uh really. I've traveled a lot to get here...It was me and my guardian..but they um...they aren't with me anymore; it's just me." she gave a forced smile pretending like it was fine and looked up into the rafters of the barn to give her something else to think about instead of her past. It hadn't been long since they parted ways in a storm freak accident. She didn't even know if they were alive still or not; it was just her now.
"What about you? What's your story? Have you been alone by choice or by fate?" she asked changing the subject away from herself. "Oh, I haven't even introduced myself how rude of me! My name's Miku! Thanks for letting me stay the night here; I appreciate it, I was planning on just continuing to walk until I found a place to rest." she smiled over at the calico.

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Clementine watched as the grey she-cat looked around curiously, taking in the sights of the barn. She had to admit, she had done the same thing when she first arrived. Such a large space, entirely unoccupied! What a stroke of luck.
"Not many stop by here, no." Clementine confirmed the other she-cat's guess with a twitch of her whiskers. "I prefer it that way though. I go out most days to hunt and sometimes I run into other cats. But it's nice to have my own quiet space to come back to," she admitted. She greatly preferred when interactions with others were on her terms.
The calico's ears pricked up, hearing the melancholy tone in the other cat's voice. Something had happened to this guardian of hers, and while she was clearly old enough to fend for herself now, there had obviously been a bond between them. Clementine hoped for more details, being nosy as she was, but the she-cat simply gave her a pained smile and changed the subject. Maybe later, once she had built the illusion of trust, she could pry a little more.
The focus of the conversation then switched to Clementine, and her fur prickled. What was her story, hm? She wasn't keen to tell this stranger too many bits of truth just yet, if ever. She mused over her possibilities for a moment, then flicked her tail decisively.
"Clementine," she introduced herself in return, nodding politely. "Nice to meet you, Miku. It's getting cold these days, I couldn't possibly turn you away in weather like this." Really, all she'd done was step aside and go back to her own corner of the barn, but she could play the gracious host if it benefited her.
"I suppose fate hasn't been very kind to me," she sighed, putting on a bit of dramatics. "I used to live with some family in the woods farther north, but badgers attacked our den and I was the only one who made it out in time." Clementine let her whiskers droop in sadness, looking up at Miku with big eyes. She seemed the sympathetic type, Clementine thought. "I've learned to appreciate being alone, but of course I still miss them and wish things had turned out differently," she finished, pretending to shake off the difficult memories. This was a favourite of her false histories, and so it was quite well practised. "It was moons ago, anyway. I don't want to depress you with details of the past."

@gala Clementine, why are you so dramatic? xD

The grey feline kneeded at the dry straw a moment longer before she laid herself down like a loaf of bread and rested her chin on the edge of the trough to peer over in the calico's direction to see her; after all she did not wish to be rude and not physically tell the other that she was paying attention to her. Her green eyes stared out across the room at the bundle of fur almost blending in the hay pile she lay on as Miku listened to her tale of how she came to be where she did. A small frowned etched it's way across Miku's features and her eyes squinted back at the other. Her loud mouth wanted to ask if her tale was the truth. She might not know people that way and doesn't often have the people skills that she should despite being friendly but Miku never met someone so dramatic on her journey.
"Is that so? I personally have never heard of badgers attacking in a group. As far as I have heard they don't hunt together either...your family must have disturbed them somehow for them to attack like that...they aren't known for attacking out of the blue just because they can. Of course, I'm not saying I know all the facts about badgers; they are nasty creatures. Misunderstood a lot of the times I think but still not something I'd like to have to encounter so young as you had. Whatever happened to your family I am sorry to hear that." she said cocking her head at her with a small smile that said she didn't really believe the story. She wasn't naive and enjoyed her fact checking; she didn't know if she should trust this calico as far as she could throw her. Her eyes did not match the look it should have to the tale of her story.
"Oh, don't you worry about the details. I was the one to ask anyways, I enjoy a good conversation." she gave a small smile before looking out the door into the darkened world outside with a thoughtful hum trying to think of something else to talk about that wouldn't cause suspicious answers. Perhaps Miku misjudged the other and Clementine wasn't as odd as Miku thought at first? Looking back towards the calico she put on a more friendly face and spoke up again.
"Anyways, it'd never good to be alone. What kind of cats live around these parts do you know? I'm sure I'm not the only one that you have come across since you have been here a few moons," she said looking at her curiously.

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Clementine fought back a smirk as she listened to the other she-cat pick apart the tale she had just given. The calico thought it was perhaps the most polite way she'd ever been called a liar. She had taken Miku as a sweet cat, a bit air-headed maybe, but was pleased to discover that she wasn't as gullible as Clementine may have originally thought. The grey she-cat definitely knew her stuff, that much was certain.
Of course, it was never Clementine's style to admit defeat, even when she'd been called out as nicely as this. It would be much more fun to continue and see how long she could get the other to play along. After all, she hadn't outright said that Clemetine was lying.
"Yes, it was quite odd... We had lived there happily for moons and suddenly this group of badgers was upon us! I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't lived through it myself," she shook her head. "Their little minds work in mysterious ways, indeed." She agreed, surprised at Miku's genuine concern for her family despite clearly knowing they hadn't been killed by badgers. Most cats were rather prickly to her once they suspected her of dishonesty, but Miku was still being quite friendly with her despite the distrusting look in her eyes.
They fell into a moment of silence, both pondering what to say next. Then Miku broke the stillness, asking about other cats Clementine might have met in her time here. The calico thought, scanning her memories for interesting things to say.
"I've seen some cats around, though I haven't talked to many," she admitted. "There was a tortoiseshell queen I met on the moor not long after I arrived, and a bit after that I ran into a pair of cats on some strange journey to return a very bright bird to its nest," she said. While it sounded just like something she might make up, this was entirely the truth. She wondered if they had ever made it; they hadn't stopped to talk long and she hadn't seen them since. It would have been easier to just eat the little feathered beast, she thought. "Aside from that, though, most cats have tended to keep their distance. I suppose they're fairly territorial around here." She hummed thoughtfully. "And yourself? You seem to know the area quite well, have you met many other cats in your time here?"

@gala Here you go! In case you're wondering about the bird thing, I was referencing another thread I have with Zesha ( Here if you wanna read it ahaha) Also let me know if there's a specific direction you wanna take this or if you wanna just keep winging it~

Miku never claimed to be the smartest cat in the world and a lot of others who met her would consider her air-headed or at least not observant about the world around her. The funny thing was though, she was; observant that is. Despite acting like she isn't paying attention at a young age she honed in a rather skillful habit that she'd gotten from her mentor. Even when putting off an air or looking as if she isn't paying anyone any mind and doing whatever she is; for example being too fascinated with herbs she would be currently working on; she knows what's going around her. Picking up emotions around her was not so much as a habit that she had been taught but more as a second nature she was born with. She was empathetic to others and without having to look at them know what they were feeling. Well, most of the time at least. She was good with picking up details. The downside of that though was that she was rather rusty when it came to interactions with others. So yes, she managed to pick up that Clementine wasn't telling the truth; or seemingly not telling the truth due to hard facts that Miku was aware of; that did not mean that Miku was smart or skilled at knowing others.
She kept her words back in her mind instead of on her tongue as Clementine stuck with the story of the badgers despite Miku having called her out on her lies as politely as she could. She wasn't a cat of confrontation of course so edging around calling others stupid or liars in the kindest and most polite way was a rather ironic way for Miku to express herself with only risking getting an earful of hurtful or angry words if her observations proved to provoke someone. Her ears perked up when Clementine began speaking of the other cats she came across and the other couldn't help but tilt her head to study the other's features more closely to gauge her reactions and feelings as she spoke. Clementine might have lied earlier but Miku could tell from the look in the other's eyes despite putting off an air of aloofness that Clementine did have some sort of feelings for some others she came across; that made Miku smile because that gave her faith that Clementine was a cat that she could trust for the most part because she was mortal of course and had feelings too even if she refused to show it and hide behind fairy tales.
At the mention of Miku's own travel and newcomers, she came across brought the other to her senses again and she looked visibly startled for a moment as her thoughts were interrupted. A small smile graced her features as she looked up at the rafters of the dark looming roof of the barn. Her green eyes gleamed in the meek like coming from the moon outside as she spoke softly; a tone of tiredness and longing in her voice that didn't have much to do with the physical.
"My travels...that's a lot to tell in one go. Let's just say I have met some others across my journey that have implanted their memories in my mind like paw steps in the sands. I don't often come across lots of cats honestly that's why it's so imprinted in me their faces even if their names don't cross my brain. I have traveled for a while...alone for the most part. I know the areas rather well yes, but mainly due to my memory of what herbs I need when." she frowned lifting a paw up to her face to examine it in the dim light and then rose to her paws to begin looking through her bundle in the corner that she had placed and began plucking leaves from the bundle and began to chew it. The taste was a familiar one if not at all pleasant. A moment later her tongue came out and the chewed-up green mass mixed with her saliva rolled off her tongue and on her pad that she proceeded to pressed and smear to cover it.
"Sorry, that just made me remember my paws were hurting from my walk earlier." she cuddled and settled back down; resting her chin on the edge of the trough to stare through the dark at the black and ginger calico loner across the barn.
"I might stay here for a while; in these lands I mean. I've come across new herbs that I'd like to study awhile and I rather like this territory. I'm tired of walking away from a place to search out more knowledge...I'm not getting any younger and I'd hate to miss out on possibilities if I kept moving yeah know? Do you plan on staying here for much longer or are you like me and travel a lot?" she asked curiously.
Sorry for the late reply! Hope it's to your liking! I tried to post this last night but it didn't save my work so I had to rewrite it! XD oh and I was just going to wing it! To get a feel for Clementine with Miku and vice versa!

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Clementine was surprised to hear that the other she-cat didn't seem to have been in the area for as long as she originally would have guessed. Instead, she told the calico rather poetically of those she had met and since left behind; or perhaps she had been the one left behind, it was hard to say. Either way, Clementine could tell that Miku was weary of being alone, and supposed it made sense. Cats were naturally social creatures, after all, though Clementine herself was enjoying her freedom still.
The fluffy she-cat watched Miku as she suddenly rose, picked through her leaves and stems, and pulled out a couple to chew into a mushy green paste. She inwardly grimaced as she watched the grey she-cat spread the paste over a paw pad, imagining the slimy feeling and not liking it one bit. Perhaps it would be useful to learn something to help soothe any injuries she might get, but for now she was fine dealing with a scraped pad or two. On the surface, however, she fixed a smile on her face.
"That's amazing that you know how to do that," she praised the other she-cat. "I've heard from others that some plants are good for fixing injuries, but I'm awful at telling them apart." She flicked her tail in amusement. If it wasn't prey, Clementine wasn't interested. Plants hardly made for a good chase.
She nodded in agreement at Miku's statement about this area being nice; she hadn't had much of a chance to explore it yet, only venturing onto the moors occasionally. But she had seen other spots that caught her interest, like the flowing river leading down to the forest, and some marshes to the east. It was certainly a nicely varied stretch of land, as far as terrain went. Clementine could take her time exploring each part as she pleased.
"I'll probably leave this barn once the worst of leaf-bare has past," she repeated her statement from earlier, but then continued, "But as for this area in general, I'll probably stick around for a while. If the rest of it is as prey-rich as this, I'm not sure I'll ever leave!" She joked with a purr. "I'd like to see what's beyond this moorland, but I'm not one for cold, wet paws. I'll wait until the greenery comes back again in newleaf to do much more exploring." She might go mad before then, being stuck in this barn for so many moons, but perhaps she could find more cats to keep things interesting until it was warm enough to sleep under the trees again.

Miku's ears perked up at the other's voice but not fully paying attention as her face and eyes focused themselves on what she was doing. It wasn't anything difficult really; it was actually one of the first things she had ever learned from her guardian growing up so it was second nature to be smearing her scratched and aching pads in the green goop. Due to her head and eyes being down Miku didn't realize that despite the other she-cat's words her interest in what she said was actually false. Miku gave a hum in reply and a small smile as she finished up with wrapping the rest of her bundle back together with the leaf; speaking all the while as she sorted everything neatly back into place within the bundle.
"Thank you, it's like second nature to me. Not a lot of cat's know how to use the plant life around them to their advantage outside of the norm of hiding behind them for coverage for hunting or under for protection." she replied turning her attention back to her companion.
"When I was a young kit my guardian was the one who taught me. I don't remember my family in all honesty; my guardian is all that I had growing up; they made sure to teach me the basics of survival and then after the basics of hunting and protecting oneself...they taught me to make use of the plants around me for if I ever needed it. To be fair, it went over my head and I wasn't a good student at first. It wasn't until I lost them that I took their lessons to heart." she gave a small smile that did not reach her eyes before she turned away to look out at the sky through the open arch way of the barn doors.
She did not mean to tell of her sadness but she couldn't lie to herself and say that her very existence had no meaning if it meant not keeping the light of the lessons she'd learned from her guardian fade. She was a sentimental creature when it came to them... she missed them dearly. Something this feline wasn't sure if Clementine would understand. Sighing softly to herself she gave a tired smile to the calico and wrapped her tail around herself as she nuzzled into the hay in the trough.
"I'm sorry, I'm rather tired; I tend to ramble about silly notions when I'm tired...I think I will be turning in for the night. I've had a long day and I will have another long journey head of me tomorrow. Goodnight Clementine." her head disappeared behind the trough boards as she tucked herself into the hay for rest.
She did not lie she said she was tired. She did have much to do and a day full of walking and searching come the morning sunrise. But, she also was a little embarrassed that she'd let slip the loneliness and sadness...her weakness in front of a stranger that she may never see again. Not that she did not trust Clementine. It was more of Miku was not used to the comforts or criticism of others; she was rusty at best and did not want to hear the sympathetic words. She would say goodbye to her new companion if she was not gone when Miku awoke the next morning and then the grey feline would be on her way again to go in search of herbs to gather and research. Maybe find some more felines to encounter. But, it was late and she needed whatever precious moments of sleep she could get until her aching muscles, lonely mind, and tired paws had to arise again to pursue her endless mission yet again.
You're fine! I figured we can go ahead and end the thread either with this last post or you can post in reply and then lock it; so that way Miku can go ahead and make her journey towards the moores for the attack plot

Clementine || Queen || 19 moons Clementine wriggled deeper into her nest of hay as the other she-cat spoke, beginning to feel sleepiness pulling at her paws again. She could hear again the notes of pride in her craft, and melancholy at having lost this companion of hers in her voice, and it made Clementine wonder if she'd ever get to hear the full story. Probably not, she decided, as this Miku seemed to see right through her attempts at winning her over with sweet talk. It happened, on occasion, and Clementine usually grew bored with them rather quickly when she couldn't manipulate conversations to her liking. Still, it had been rather interesting seeing the other cat so comfortable with herbs and how to use them. If she had still been with her parents, she knew they would have wanted her to continue her cajoling and flattery, in hopes that such a useful cat might ally herself with them. Thankfully, she was on her own now and was free to let Miku move on as she pleased, and she would go back to her routine of exploring the moor and fattening herself on barn mice. Miku seemed to have similar ideas, and curled herself further into her nest as well.
"Good night, Miku. Feel free to hunt in the morning before you go, I won't miss a mouse or two." The calico closed her eyes and began imagining what the other's journey might look like. "May you have safe travels."

@gala And so marks the end! Curious to see if these two will even cross paths again Also just a quick note, the thread with Flare and Noctus actually takes place before this one, so no need to rush back! xD
