Name: Sunchaser
Allegiance: WindClan
Rank: Warrior (Tunneler)
Age: Unknown
Birth Moon: Unknown
Gender: Female (she/her)
Sex: Tom
Appearance: A graying golden spotted tabby with hazel-green eyes. A once lusciously golden pelt is now silvered by gray hairs. Has nicked and torn ears.
Personality:
Sunchaser is a biter. She’s the cat that twolegs warn their young to stay away from, the grouchy elder who constantly complains about a tick in their fur (or a stick up their ass!), and the hostile rogue who picked fights with everyone in their youth. Yeah, that’s her. She’s a biter, she’s unafraid to use her claws, and she’s *proud.*
… At least, that’s what Sunchaser likes to project herself as. The real Sunchaser is buried under ten layers of pride, a hard head, and a short temper. Deep down, she is willing to risk everything to protect the ones she cares for—all with the veneer of disaffected coolness. Though, it takes a while for Sunchaser to make close connections. She has little patience for cats who she deems as “lazy” and is very stubborn when it comes to making important decisions. She looks down upon cats who fall short of her high expectations.
Overall, Sunchaser is someone who likes getting down to business and finishing tasks as soon as possible. She has high expectations for others, including herself, and gets irritated when they don’t meet her standards. She hates change and anything she hasn’t expected, and she feels safest when she is in most control.
History:
Many, many seasons ago, Sunchaser was a Tunneler of WindClan, ironic given her name. She started as a Moor Runner, even passing into warriorhood as one, hence her name. She was a good Moor Runner, a strong hunter and a talented fighter, but she hated the moors because of its intense heat. She much preferred the tunnels for its straightforwardness, and liked the relative safety that the tunnels offered her from the outdoor elements. The moors always felt too open and too large for Sunchaser. But the tunnels… Sunchaser was never a poetic cat, but the tunnels made her feel poetic.
So, she retrained to become a Tunneler. Though Sunchaser was a cat of few regrets, she did miss going out for runs with Amberbird, a cat she trained alongside with when she was younger. The two kept in touch, even after Sunchaser became a Tunneler, and they eventually became mates. Sunchaser liked taking Amberbird to see the tunnels, and they had a secret hideout they liked escaping to when duties were overwhelming.
Sunchaser was eventually assigned to mentor Crevicepaw, something she wasn’t entirely pleased at first. about. She enjoyed the independence and the quietness that her worked often entailed in the tunnels, bur having an apprentice would prove a potential liability. Despite her initial hesitation, she grew to enjoy Crevicepaw’s company. She found Crevicepaw to be a thoughtful cat, one whose observations and musings about the world around them opened her to new insights. There were times when Sunchaser felt like she was the apprentice, not the other way around.
And for such an anxious cat, Crevicepaw was never quite bothered by Sunchaser to the extent of others.
The apprenticeship went smoothly until the time came for Crevicepaw’s final assessment. They had a panic attack in the middle, and admitted their fears of the tunnels to Sunchaser. She was devastated, feeling as though all her hard work had been wrecked. Though she helped Crevicepaw switch to being a Moor Runner apprentice (and helped change their name to Fieldpaw), their relationship had been damaged for a while.
Fieldpaw was reassigned to Amberbird to learn how to be a Moor Runner. From afar, Sunchaser watched as Fieldpaw became Fieldflight.
In the moons before the Final Gathering, Sunchaser and Fieldflight rekindled their bond through their concerns for the future of WindClan and for the clans at large. At the time, tensions between clans were high, and fears of bloodshed drove leaders on edge.
Then, on the night of the Final Gathering, a fight broke out. Then a skirmish, and then a battle. Amberbird fled from the scene, hurrying to the secret hideout. Meanwhile, Sunchaser and Fieldflight raced to find her. As they tried rushing to Amberbird, a cave-in separated them and killed all three of them instantly.
Sunchaser and Fieldflight awoke, expecting to be among their ancestors in StarClan, but instead found themselves in the tunnels as ghosts. They were confined to the one tunnel, and were unable to appear under sunlight. Sunchaser yearned to see her mate, Amberbird, but was unable to reach her. Few cats met the ghosts, until Roots’s family moved in by the tunnels.
