Since it’s Pride Month, I was thinking y’all could gush about your queer characters on TCR (or other OCs)! I can go first
I think all my characters are some version of queer, genuinely can’t remember if I have a cishetallo character 😭
But here goes!
I think all my characters are some version of queer, genuinely can’t remember if I have a cishetallo character 😭
But here goes!
- Roots (they/it) is agender. It doesn’t understand gender, doesn’t really care for it, doesn’t feel attached to it, but it acknowledges that gender exists for other cats. I chose to use they/it pronouns for them because they were the least personal pronouns, and that reflects Roots’s detachment with gender as a concept. The same can be said to Roots’s asexuality and aromanticism. Romance, and love as a whole, is a perplexing subject for Roots. I feel that loveless aro would be a term that could apply to Roots. They are a very passionate cat, someone who cares a whole lot about the world. But love is another kind of care, it’s like this committed attachment to the world that Roots doesn’t have or experience. Yes, they care about their friends and family, yes they care about ghosts and tunnels, and maybe they would use “love” to describe that kind of card. But they wouldn’t call that “love” because it’s not a term they connect with. It doesn’t really have attractions to other cats, whether it be platonic or romantic. That’s just not the kind cat Roots is, but it still cares for others.
- Rat (he/him) is bisexual! He’s tortured with visions <3 I see his love for Croak, his second mate, as being one of those examples of true, undying yet tragic love. Almost like Achilles and Patroclus. His first relationship was with Dawn, and though they’re very much exes, they still have a great deal of care for one another.
- Bayou is a cis molly who uses she/they pronouns! I’d see her as leaning gender nonconforming (in the androgynous sense!), and I’d describe her sexuality as queer. I can’t quite see their label as being lesbian or something like pan or bi. She’s someone who simply just vibes with whoever she likes, and she identifies with queerness.
- Finch (she/her)! I haven’t roleplayed her enough, but I see her as someone who grew up in a heteronormative environment, and once she explores her sexuality outside of those bounds, she learns that she is sapphic or a lesbian (middle-aged women discovering their sexualities later in life heheh). I love stories of exploring one’s gender and sexuality, and I think this coincides with her arc.
- Snowy Owl (he/xe) is a demiguy, like xe is fine with being seen as masculine but xe also does some funky stuff with gender presentation, and I associate floral and avian imagery with xir. He’s also panromantic demisexual! Very much the romanctic, swoon-y, flamboyant type of cat and I vibe with that.
- I’m not sure what Loon (she/her) would be, probably bisexual! But I think she’s somewhere on the arospec spectrum. I was thinking she was demiromantic but allosexual (for TCR-friendly interpretation: she finds some cats hot and attractive at a glance but she wouldn’t necessarily fall in love with them until establishing an emotional connection). I love arospec characters hehe.
- Blade (she/em/they) is transfem genderfluid in a “mechanic butch with tattooes” way. I’m not sure about sexuality. I guess I don’t really see eir being with any partner at the moment, so maybe em has an unlabeled sexuality! Love unlabeled characters
- Prowl (he/him) is a trans guy. He’s gay, he has an ex-lover named Tibs. He kind of reflects that “obsessed with masculinity to the point of embodying toxic masculinity” aspect of homoeroticism and transmasculinity. And I think, out of all of my queer characters here, he would be the one who would be the most strict on which labels are being put on him. In general, he’s a very perceptive tom and hates when the narrative is controlled for him, so his attitude towards his gender and sexuality reflects that.
- Vulture (he/him) is also gay! But unlike Prowl, he isn’t obsessed with masculinity. He vibes in a masculine-shaped frame and loves other toms and masc folks. He has a mate in Hawk, and while I haven’t seen roleplayed their relationship much, I’d like to think they have a happy marriage
- Moth (ve/vis/veir) is genderqueer! Being genderqueer myself, I realized I needed a character to represent that part of my gender. Although, the way Moth expresses veir gender is different from how I express mine. It’s in a more flowy dresses way of gender expression, cottagecore maybe? I see veir being asexual in a “I’m not physically affectionate, I love quality time and acts of service” sort of love language. Ve is probably panromantic.
- Lastly, is Crackle (they/them)! They’re the sort of non-binary that messes with gender like a playtoy. If they were human, yes they would wear dresses with Doc Martens with hot pink lipstick and a mustache, and no they will not take criticism. They’re loud and queer. They don’t really mess around with labels beyond that because they feel queerness encompasses everything they are.
