Survival
Catching prey on the moor was challenging to say the least. Rabbits and mice are quick, and very observant as well. Pepper never considered himself to be a bad hunter–he wasn’t the best but he had managed to keep himself fed through the last few moons. The moor was beginning to change his mind. There was just too much open land for the prey to use, and he was too slow to catch up.
Everything had been so much easier when his mother was still around.
She was a real hunter, able to keep herself and a helpless kit alive through all of the harsh leafbare moons. She had been the one teaching him how to survive the forest. Pepper just hoped that she was still surviving out there, somewhere.
The gorse was a very welcome sight. Now that the blossoms had grown in, the air smelled strongly of coconut. This could hide his scent! Not only that, the bright yellow flowers would do a much better job of hiding his blazing pelt than the rest of the moors could. Carefully, Pepper made his way into the gorse, creeping all the way. He was keeping his eyes, ears, and nose alert, waiting for the first unfortunate creature to come his way.
