Flower Moon Day 5, 2021 Flower 5, 2021 | Riley They watched, frozen with horror, as the mouse slipped in between gaps of the shaft
falling, falling, falling
into the shadow-swallowed abyss. The only indication that the mouse had reached the bottom was the echo of its familiar squeak. A moment later and the realization sunk in. As if struck by the blow of a claw, Blade stumbled to the side of the pavement, a wrenching ache seizing their body.
The mouse. Was gone.
Blade’s first instinct was to freeze up, head running with the sequence of events took place only heartbeats prior. They were only playing with their favorite trophy, chasing after it like a real mouse. Chasing it so far, that it fell in the hole.
They reached a paw in through the slit, flailing it around in the hopes of catching the mouse. But of course, it was too late, and Blade’s paw was nowhere near close to the bottom, no matter how hard they tried sticking it down there. At this point, all luck was lost for Blade… unless they decided to go down the stinkhole. What a silly idea! Only a mouse-brain would think of that! But even then, Blade was not fully convinced…
Defeated, they rested their head on their paws, body splayed out on the pavement near the vent, mourning the loss of their mouse with a howl loud enough to attract the attention of curious onlookers.

Magpie
He was a slinky tom, at least that's what he thought and prided himself on, being subtle and sneaky was what he excelled at and most would see that as a rather foul trait, but he enjoyed it he could explore vast areas while avoiding anything- or one, who might cause a problem for him. That didn't mean he didn't like others, quite the opposite he enjoyed finding friends and causing mischief with them, but he wasn't as stupid as others believed and knew there were dangers to him, so until he found the other person safe he'd remain lurking in the background, even though his pelt made that somewhat difficult, and he'd admit he wouldn't stop himself from prancing about another when he thought- even got the slightest idea the other wouldn't rip him to shreds at the slightest moment.
Prancing along a tree overhanging a shaft beneath, where another cat was staring down. Magpie couldn't see the other feline's face but he felt abject horror radiating from them and this got him beyond curious. What could've been down there, an animal, another cat, or even a monster; the possibilities were endless and had him on the tip of his toes, watching just waiting for something to happen.
All he witnessed was a paw try and reach down for something, trying to grasp it between there claws as whatever it was had eluded them. He would feel bad if it was another cat, if it was he would try and help, but just seeing such a pitiful sight was quite amusing to him and left his gaze intently watching the other. Now that they looked closer they could see the other had quite the pretty patterns on their pelt almost-looking cream with darker stripes aligning their body, it made him let out a hum as he wanted to get a closer look at the feline.
Had he been known for making good decisions, had he been proud of keeping his distance of other felines when it came to the risk they could bring him. Holding back a disgruntled huff, he weighed the pros and cons before ignoring all reasoning in his mind and jumping down from where he was perched and deftly onto the ground, not quite sure if the other had heard him jump onto the ground but casually waltzing up to the other, eyes peering large and almost-owlish as he stared at where the shaft was, the gaps easier to see through now that he was closer.

Flower 5, 2021 | @krakenPawsteps thudded against the pavement. Blade took a momentary pause from their distressed yowling, and lifted their head from their paws. A strange cat approached them, their black pelt speckled with white splotches, as if they were covered in snow. But considering how it was the middle of newleaf and not at all the season of snowfall, they could confirm that the cat was, in fact, not covered in snow. It was fur, alright.
Feeling a flash of embarrassment at being seen for their sorrowful state, Blade rose to their feet, straightened up, and turned to the freckled-face stranger. Casting an innocent smile, they tried to pretend they hadn’t been screaming over a toy mouse just heartbeats earlier.
“Hello!” they called out in an overly cheery tone, their voice grating against grinning teeth. “Pleasure to meet you! It’s um, well, a fine day for weather, isn’t it? Brilliant day for hunting, I reckon. Well, that is, if you’re a forest cat and not a twolegplace cat, I suppose.”
