Name: Poppy
Desired Name: Poppycloud
Allegiance: Solitairy, eventually ThunderClan
Rank: Loner
Age: 28 moons
Birth Moon: Flower Moon 2019
Sex: She-cat, she/her
Appearance: Cream-colored tabby she-cat with yellow eyes, white paws, and a white chest. Her tabby stripes are strongest on her tail and palest on her pelt. Poppy's left ear is missing it's tip, a parting gift from her father. Reference pic.
Personality: Poppy spends most of her days looking over her shoulder. She's constantly paranoid about her parents trying to find her, and she's convinced herself that she and her family need to keep moving or else they WILL be caught, and Poppy can't say what will happen if they are.
She tries not to let these fears on to her kits. She loves them more than anything in the world and will die to protect them if that's what's necessary. Poppy tries to distract them from questioning her with adventures and competitions. Whenever they come across strangers, she doesn't let the family linger long and tries to be as anonymous as possible. She doesn't them them her name or the names of her kits, or she lies about what their names are.
The only one who can even temporarily put her fears to rest is her mate, Jasper. Jasper is the only cat she feels safe enough around to let down her walls. She will throw her head back in laughter without worry of him lunging for her throat, or fall asleep pressed up against him and not have to worry he'll hurt their kits. It will take a lot of convincing from somebody to make her feel safe enough to leave their kits alone.
History: To understand Poppy's present, you know to know her family's past. Her ancestors, more specifically. Once upon a time, there was a RiverClan warrior named Pikesplash. And Pikesplash HATED ThunderClan. To be more accurate, he hated the ThunderClan warrior Thistlespots. Ever since they first met when they were young apprentices, the two'd shared a deep, intense loathing for each other. And any time the two Clans fought, they went at each other with the intent to harm and maim.
Such was the detestation between the two that when Pikesplash saw the opportunity to cause Thistlespots emotional damage as well, he took it. In the middle of a border fight, Pikesplash murdered Thistlespots's sister in cold blood. Thistlespots got revenge by killing Pikesplash's brother. When the battle that destroyed the Clan happened, both toms fled separately into twolegplace.
They met up accidentally one day and it was like nothing ever happened, like they were still two warriors over a border fighting for their Clan. They spat and snarled and insulted the other, and they fought until one of them was forced to run. And this happened again and again. There was too much bad blood between them for even pretend to stick together. Eventually the two warriors got mates and had kits and taught those kits to never trust this cat or his family. Those kits grew up and passed those lessons on to their kits, and so on and so forth until we reach Poppy, Pikesplash's great great great granddaughter.
Poppy was told those same stories and lessons, but wanted to find out for herself. Not because she didn't trust her family, but because she wanted to see the evidence for her own eyes. So one day she said she was going hunting but really went out to find one of the cats her family hated. She ended up meeting Jasper, who was the descendant of Thistlespot. He grew up on the same stories she did, only her family was made out to be the villains.
The pair were wary at first, giving each other the benefit of the doubt, and they ended up actually hitting it off. She found his sharp wit hilarious, and he found her softness endearing. They met in secret for seasons until they were adults in their own right. They fell in love, as the story goes, and became mates. The plan was to run away in secret and live their lives together, far away from the drama of their families.
Poppy's father found them first. He attacked Jasper in a rage, saying no daughter of his would consort with scum like him. Poppy got in the way though, resulting in the tip of her ear being cut clean off. It was pain like she'd never had before, physical and emotional. Her father chased them off, saying if he ever saw them again he'd kill them himself.
Poppy and Jasper left the only home they'd ever known, but at least they had each other. Poppy's ear healed, but the pain in her heart wasn't as easy. Despite everything she'd loved her family, loved her father, and his rejection was something she'd never get over.
They traveled, and eventually Poppy became pregnant. They traveled as long as they could until, eventually, Poppy gave birth in a rotten log. She had three, two she-kits and a tom. She and Jasper named the first two Ivy and Storm, but worried over the third. Their youngest was just as lively, drank milk and wiggled just as much as her siblings, but she didn't mewl like they did.
All she gave was raspy breaths, like whispers, and so that's what they named her. Whisper.
Paranoia kept Poppy from truly enjoying their lives together. What if her father came after them? He was so angry, she wouldn't put it past him to hunt them down like prey. What about her kits? Would he kill them too? After too many nightmares of her precious little ones laying dead at their grandfather's claws, Poppy was able to convince Jasper to keep moving.
They rotated carrying the kits until the kits were big enough to walk on their own. They've made it to a forest, where Jasper has finally convinced Poppy they were safe and to let their kits have a home for the first time in their life. Poppy has agreed, but she still finds herself looking over her shoulder.
