"Nothing worse than a dirty thieving rat" It was a breath of fresh soft morning air as Noodle slinked through the cat door of his nest and into his lush twoleg's garden that he tended so carefully for. He had learned quickly that his person did not like it when he hunted the animals residing in the gardens, so when he felt like giving chase he would always respect his person's wishes and hunt elsewhere, sometimes even crossing roads to get to the forest where the real tasty treats were. Of course, rats were an exception. Long since he was a little kit he had an affliction against the vile creatures. Spreading sickness and making a giant mess- attacking even the cats on occasion. Not on his watch. He knew where they were located deep on the other side of the woods, about half a day's travel, but he nor would he hope anyone go to their site of birthing. They would drove in too great of a number for even the fabled forest cat clans to handle. Perhaps rats had been one of their outdoing, since surely the rumors and legends of old clans came from somewhere? He couldn't imagine thousands of wild cats roaming the forest, killing one another and sharpening their claws on old bones.
He drew his attention to the fence of his yards as he leapt up onto it and began trotting down the line of homes connected to his, yellow green eyes scanning the area for any mark of his arch nemeses skittering about below. They had been increasing in number the past few weeks and Noodle was not having any of that. Too bad the neighborhood stray dogs weren't smart enough to catch rats, their size would have been a big help. He dropped his jaw in hopes of picking up the scent of one or two instead- and the smell of death hit him like a slap to the face. There was a rat alright, a dead one. He jumped down from the fence and into a back ally where he would normally encounter the equally bad stray cats of town. There was a dead rat, half eaten and left to rot on the ground, a little over a day old. "Stupid strays." He growled under his breath, "Always leaving their mess behind. I hope this gave you worms." He looked around for an open trash can, which there almost always was, and quickly picked the rat up and tossed it inside. At least then the smell wouldn't be so bad. Shuffling from the bag next to the disturbed can caught Noodle's attention and he hunkered down into a pouncing position. A rat slowly peeked it's ugly long face from the side of a chewed up bag and attempted to flee upon laying eyes on the yellow terror stalking it- but it was too late. The marbled bangle shot forward with his long front paws and dragged the rat out to its doom as it shrieked. He grabbed it by the throat until his enemy was vanquished- and proudly dropped his kill as he sat and groomed himself back down a little. Another successful hunt! 526 WORDS - TAGS - First thread hurray!

[googlefont="Poiret One"] She took a deep breath and stared down at the black snake like path that spread long left and right that separated the forest from the dwellings of the two-legs on the other side. She was curious and doing this more as a dare to herself. Her brothers had told her stories about this place and how there were other cats out there that lived in those large structures on the other side of the fences. She'd heard from Goon that the cats there were pathetic and couldn't hold their own while Tinder told her that they had their own heirarchy. Sugar didn't know what to believe. But they said the two-legs were dangerous and the cats that lived with them weren't worth bothering or getting hurt over. Which was besides the point here though. Thing was though, her brothers never even went over there as far as she'd known so how would they know? But Sugar wanted to know just exactly what kind of life they lived and why they were considered so different from the cats that lived in the forest. So here she was taking the first few steps towards the black snake. She hesitated with one paw hovering over the ground; eyes flashing side by side to make sure there was no one else watching or sneaking up on her. Seeing she was alone Sugar gave a little yip and bolted across the street; hiding underneath a bush a moment feeling her heart hammering in her chest afraid. But nothing had happened and she was still in one piece so she calmed down with a deep breath.
The sound of someone jumping down from somewhere above her made her flinch. She closed her eyes hoping she wasn't found out but nothing happened so she opened them just in time to see a lanky bangle figure striding past. The fluffy cream and black Siamese blinked never having seen a cat with such pretty colors before. When said cat slipped around the corner Sugar couldn't help but step out onto the sidewalk to see if she could see the other feline. Seeing they had disappeared she padded forward glancing around anxiously before darting after the other. The sound of rattling around the corner made her head peek around the stone wall to see the same cat she noticed moment before toss something in the big metal bin lining the walls. What a curious thing to do! She took a step forward curious just in time to see the tom tackle down a rat that squeaked in surprise before being killed. She didn't realize she was standing right in front of the entrance as she stood gaping at the tom.
"That was great! I didn't know cats on this side of the black snake was good at hunting. My brothers were wrong about you guys." she burst out staring wide eyed at him not realizing that she might have surprised him. "Nothing worse than a dirty thieving rat" Noodle whipped around in a flash, claws unsheathed and fur bushed up as he expected to see another rat, almost not catching what the other cat said. He huffed as he realized it was just some she-cat who had managed to sneak up on him, "Sorry, you gave me a good spook." He said quickly, hoping he hadn't scared her off in return. He sheathed his claws and trotted out, allowing his fur to fall back down before he tilted his head and brows furrowed suspectfully. He had never seen this cat before, and with no collar and the smell of the wild it was safe to assume she was a stray- and not the rat culprit who had left a dead animal in the ally.
"Yes most of the house cats aren't trained like I was, my mother is a wild cat." He explained matter-of-fact like. He didn't know what to make of her yet but he didn't trust strays, especially ones who smelt so... city-like. "Black... snake?" He wasn't familiar with the terminology, but whoever these brothers were he had proved wrong he would take that in pride. That's right, I'm a fighter, they had better watch out! He thought to himself, chest puffed. He could suffer a little conversation since this she-cat seemed friendly enough. Flattery went a long way with him, a weakness he was happy to indulge in. "It's my job to take care of the pests out here. Rats and Raccoons, they make a mess of trash, steal food, and they can hurt cats and kits too." He gave his chest a few good licks to help smooth out his fur and to emphasize the scars that were up and down his chest and legs. He looked back up to her eventually, offering a smile as he wrapped his tail around his paws.
"I'm Noodle. I live in a house around the middle of town. Normally I'm averse to new cats around- had some trouble makers lately. You're not from around here are you?" 340 WORDS - @gala - noodle the hero letting it all go to his head aha

[googlefont="Poiret One"] She took a small step back when the other spun around on her looking as if he was ready to attack her. Her smile quivered a moment before she was collecting herself and stood back up whenever he seemed to realize that she was not here to harm him. The pretty Siamese looked behind him at the end of the alleyway before back at him as he began speaking to her and stepped aside to allow him to pass. She turned to follow him out of the little alleyway and perked up a little as he spoke about himself; having lived around her. So despite acting like a wild cat himself the tom was not a wild cat? What an interesting life. She cocked her head studying him realizing that he looked far too battle worn to be just an ordinary house cat which made her frown a little.
"If you are a kittypet...A cat that lives in these parts, I mean. Why do you look as if you spent your life on the other side of the black snake? That's the black strip that separates this area from the forest where I come from. " she hummed thoughtfully and looked down the sidewalk hoping no one else was around before glancing behind her at the forest.
"What brought you onto wanting to do that? If you are a kittypet you have no need to worry about fending for food out here unlike us. Have you ever gone into the forest? Perhaps, you'd actually survive out there better than my brothers say kittypets would but I feel as if you are different than most kittypets. I actually never met one before today so I could be wrong. I don't know much about kittypets because I never left the forest before." she added shrugged and gave a sheepish smile.
"My name is Sugar. I live out there with my family. I think you'd like it out there. There's plenty of prey out there but we don't kill just to get rid of them. We sort of live in harmony out there because frankly if we killed all on sight we wouldn't have anything to eat out there you know? It's not like here where rats and raccoons are a problem. We kill them but we kill to survive and eat not just to get rid of them. Have you ever been out there before if your mom was a wild cat?" she asked curiously with eyes wide and watchful as she stared at him. She realized that she was probably rattling on and talking far too much for this tom and snapped her jaws closed and looked down at her paws sheepishly. "Nothing worse than a dirty thieving rat" Noodle let the she-cat seem to ramble on, it didn't bother him. He was glad that since he just had to see a stray today, that she was a friendly one. He had met the opposite before on plenty of occasions, excited questions reminded him of the kits he watched over. He waited till she was finished with her barrage of questions, taking a moment to review his answers before he spoke, "I act like a housecat as much as you act like a stray. You're far too friendly." He joked encouragingly, shrugging to himself as he glanced aside. "I lived in the wild for a short time. I was the only of my litter to survive, and after my brother passed my mother figured my father and the house nest would be a better place to keep me safe. She comes by still to spar and train me, but my father and I live together in a nest... but." A small sigh lapsed the cheetah colored tom as he swayed on his hinds, shaking his head as his eyes focused on the she-cat again.
"I have a taste for the wild. A paw in both worlds, and I love my humans. I couldn't just leave them for the forest forever. I care for all the cats in town as well, that is why I must fight for them- almost none of them fight for themselves or see the dangers that wild creatures can pose. You sound like you have a small group- your family that helps protect you- and that you help. While we may not need to hunt for food, or seek shelter, it's never good on the off chance someone sticks their head out their window and a raccoon, rat, or dog, sticks their head in... Not to mention there are outsider cats who like to start fights with the house cats." He concluded before he stood up, wheels turning sharply in his mind. This she cat would have a wonderful house pet if just maybe she was introduced to a little of the easy life of the kittypets. She was cleaner and rather friendly, surely some human would be more than happy to take her in and give her a nice home? If she was receptive to taking to a home, anyway. Noodle knew it wasn't for everyone. Though, it would be worth a shot for sure! At the very least, she was a wild cat. Perhaps if not to be a housecat, he could recruit her to help him with fighting off some of the rats, or helping him track down their nest? "Would you like to visit my home? I'd be happy to share my house-food with you if you're hungry, and show you more about how us house cats live- you can ask as many questions as you'd like too?" 477 WORDS - @gala finally I reply!
