Frost Moon. January 19, 2021. Morning. Gale • Tom • 10 moons • Loner The morning air penetrated his shorter fur easily enough, making him shiver and try to stray out of the shadows and into the sun. Gale swore Flare had come this way. He had decided to let his older brother get a head start to wherever he was going this morning and then try to track him, but things seemed to have started to go a bit awry. It had started when he crossed a small stream and got distracted by the smell of prey, a small starling pecking among the roots of some trees. He had managed to dispatch the starling but that had given Flare plenty of time to wander off even farther, and his scent was harder to detect now that Gale had bird all over his mouth. Every time he opened his mouth to try to figure out where Flare had gone, he got a bit whiff of bird and sometimes a tiny one of his brother. Whoops.
Worse yet, this really was starting to look funny. He had passed under some really tall trees that had weird thin, needle-like leaves. There hadn’t been much undergrowth coverage there, and he had seen weird shiny creatures at one end. He had decided to avoid them because of how massive they were, and because there was a stack of fallen trees lined up neatly beside one of them. Did they eat trees? He didn’t want to find out. There wasn’t that much bravery in the tom yet.
Soon the trees became even more sparse and he found his paws against a rough, gray surface. Street cats would call this an alley. Gale picked his way along, sniffing at the garbage that was left and wondering where on Earth he was. He was nearly through the alley and onto the sidewalk when a big, furry beast accompanied by a twoleg walked by—and noticed him. The beast started howling and barking, its twoleg trying to hold on to the leash but she lost her grip and the massive dog charged after Gale.
“Get away from me you flea bag!” Gale screeched as he turned tail and fled, unsure what this thing even was. Kaeldra I imagine Gale is still a little on the short side and/or his fear makes the dog seem bigger than it is. xD

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons It had become a habit of Noctus' to spend the long leafbare nights in his mate Dahlia's nest, basking in the warmth and seemingly endless food. He was a forest cat at heart, but he wasn't stupid. Thankfully her housefolk didn't seem to mind; in fact, they cooed at the two of them sleeping curled together, reaching out with their strange furless paws to stroke him. Dahlia purred at the attention, and he had to admit it wasn't so bad himself. But even so, he couldn't spend the whole day cooped up in a twoleg nest, as much as he loved his mate.
So here he was, pushing through the cat flap into the cold morning as she mewed a farewell from the kitchen, wishing him a good day. His fur fluffed out as the chill settled in, and he leaped on to the fence to decide where to go first. He gazed into the forest. Perhaps he'd try his luck hunting again? He wasn't particularly hungry, but he didn't want to let his skills grow dull. He could always try to find Flare and see if his family needed anything to eat if he did manage to catch something.
The dark tom made to hop down onto the snowy ground below, then realized he could use this as a learning opportunity for his kits. He would take a trip to each of their nests and see if they wanted to join him for a hunting lesson before setting out. It was still early, after all.
He padded along the fence with practiced ease (honestly, he could almost pass as a twolegplace cat at this point) as he made his way to Zinnia's garden. She would be easier to handle while they collected her other siblings before getting into the actual forest; he could only imagine the impatient chattering he would have to listen to if he went to get Lily or Bluebell first.
Noctus was just rounding the corner to head into the alley when he heard a terrified screech, a bundle of ginger fur hurtling his way. A dog gave chase not far behind, its twolegs having lost control of the leash. If you're going to bring such dangerous creatures around cats, at least make sure you've got a handle on them! He hissed mentally in the twolegs direction. Then he turned his attention to the cat trying to get away, calling out.
"Up here! Dogs are lousy at climbing, you'll be safe on the fence!" There were a couple of trash cans not far from where he was standing, and he rushed over to indicate them. "Here! These will be easier to jump on first!"

Zesha As always, I rambled on for far longer than necessary xD I was about to make a comment about Gale being short because he's still a baby, but I guess he's almost an adult, huh? ;v; They grow so fast...

Gale • Tom • 10 moons • Loner Ancestors, save me! Gale prayed as he pushed his legs faster than he ever had before. It was no sooner than he had sent up the words that a stranger called out. He swung his head to look for the owner of the voice and spotted a black tom pointing to some sort of gray thing next to the fence. If it would get him away from this monster, he’d try it!
Without a second thought the ginger tom sprinted towards the trash cans, pulling farther ahead of the dog just enough to give him the time to bunch up his legs and leap up. The can wasn’t full and it swayed for a moment, but it soon stilled enough for him to scramble onto the tall fence. The dog tried to follow but did nothing more than knock over the bin before its twoleg managed to catch back up and give it a good scolding.
Letting out a huge breath, Gale turned to the black cat and said, “Thanks, I would have been dead if not for you.” He gave a smile despite the nervous jittering of his nerves beneath his pelt and continued, “I’m Gale, by the way. And uh… guess I owe you one.” Kaeldra They do grow up too fast ;o; Go back to being a baby, Gale!

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons Noctus watched as the ginger cat’s gaze fixed on him, eyes bright with panic as he raced forward. His breath caught for a moment as the can swayed, the cat holding on for dear life as the dog got closer with every heartbeat. It wasn’t a particularly big dog, in the grand scheme of things, but Noctus had learned long ago that size was never an accurate indicator of ferocity. He steadied himself, ready to lean forward and haul the ginger cat -- a tom, he realized now -- up onto the fence, but it wasn’t necessary.
The bin clattered noisily to the ground as the dog knocked it over, barking in frustration at the prey now out of its reach, and its twoleg made an angry noise of their own before dragging the creature away. The poor tom seemed to sag with relief, and Noctus felt a pang of sympathy.
“Don’t mention it, I’ve been in your position once or twice,” he returned the smile knowingly. Taking a good look at the tom’s face for the first time, something niggled in the back of his mind. He looked so familiar! Though he could swear that he was supposed to be more fluffy, and... bigger. Then the name clicked, and the black tom’s smile grew.
“Oh, you must be one of Flare’s siblings! You’re bigger than I expected, I have to admit,” he added with a laugh. He had known they were a similar age to his own kits, but the way Flare talked about them he always imagined tiny excited bundles of fur rather than nearly full-grown cats.

Gale • Tom • 10 moons • Loner Gale cocked his head to the side a moment, surprised and confused as to how this cat knew him and his brother. Then it dawned on him that there had been a black cat that Flare had mentioned several times when he returned back to ‘camp.’ What was his name…
“Wait, are you Noctus? Flare talks about you! I think I remember him saying you had family out in twolegplace. Wait—” he glanced around at his surroundings, starkly different from the trees and grass of the forest “—am I in twolegplace? How did I end up here?! I was just trying to track Flare and then… oh, mouse dung!”
His red shoulders slumped as he sighed heavily. He had messed up. Almost as soon as it started, the mood was over and he bounced back to his usual self. “Well, can’t help it now! Since I’m already here, do you think you’d be up for showing me around? I’ve never been this far before!” Either Gale didn’t notice that Noctus expected him to be smaller in all the excitement or he had chosen to ignore it altogether. Kaeldra Ah, there's that excitable furball.

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons The orange tabby seemed just as confused as Noctus had been, until the pieces all lined up and understanding dawned on his face. It didn’t last long though, his head suddenly whipping around to take in his surroundings.
“That you are, little friend,” he said. “I take it you must be Gale, then?” He remembered Flare mentioning that one of the two toms of his parents’ second litter was more of an ‘act first, think later’ type of cat, and the other was much more cautious. It made them easy to tell apart, at least.
Gale’s mood bounced back incredibly quickly, and soon enough he was asking for a tour! Noctus wondered if Flare would be terribly upset to find his younger brother missing, though the tom’s pleading face was still close enough to a kit’s that he couldn’t say no.
“Sure, why not? I was planning on visiting my own kits today, so you can come along if you like. They all live in different nests, so you’d be able to see a good chunk of Twolegplace,” he explained, and began calculating which of his kits’ nests was closest.

Zesha I figure we'll go with either Zinnia or Lily, up to you which you think would be more fun! Who knows, maybe we even want to do both xD

Gale • Tom • 10 moons • Loner He nodded in response, saying, “Yup, I’m Gale!” Gale didn’t even think about the fact Flare had probably given a very… descriptive definition of his personality if this cat could figure out which of the two orange siblings he was.
At first he thought Noctus might turn down his request for a tour, but to his excitement the tom said yes. “Awesome!” And that he even had kits in twolegplace! What must it be like, Gale wondered, to grow up in a twoleg nest?
Now, he knew Flare had told them how many children Noctus had—or at least he thought Flare had—but he couldn’t remember for the life of him how many or what their names were. So he tried to just casually start up the conversation, “So, how many kits do you have? Which one will we visit first?” Kaeldra Hm. Would he get the hyper girl out of the way first and then have his calmer daughter chill things out, or start with the chill daughter?

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons The young tom was certainly friendly, if nothing else. He easily started talking, and Noctus began leading the way along the top of the fence as he answered Gale’s questions.
“I have four kits,” he explained. “Bluebell, Lily, and Basil all look like their mother; creamy white with dark paws and faces. Zinnia is the only one that looks like me. I was thinking of heading there first, since she’s usually pretty calm compared to her sisters.” Noctus couldn’t help the fondness that crept into his voice as he spoke of his oldest daughter. He wasn't sure whether it was the fact that they were the only two in the family that had more understated appearances, or perhaps their similar personalities, but he and Zinnia had always had quite a good relationship.
”The next closest nest belongs to Lily, and I don’t know if I’m ready for her excitement this early in the morning,” the black tom laughed. He had no doubt that she’d lose her mind over him bringing a real live forest cat to her garden. Never mind that he himself was a forest cat.
Noctus pointed out different things as they walked: the path that led to the park, a strange open field in a perfect circle that was usually full of twolegs and their dogs on sunny days; one tall nest painted a bright blue that was home to a particularly friendly twoleg kit who screeched in delight every time he walked by. Then they had arrived, and Noctus dropped easily into Zinnia’s garden.
“Here we are,” he announced to Gale. “Let’s see if she’s inside.”

Gale • Tom • 11 moons • Loner Twolegplace was fascinating. It was a strange place, different from the wilds of the woods, but certainly had its own bit of wild. It really was nice to walk through and see all these places that Noctus knew like the back of his paw, and also to hear about his family. Gale couldn’t remember ever seeing a cat that had cream fur but a darker face and paws, so that was sure to be interesting once he met the other three kits, but for now he was more than happy to meet whichever of Noctus’ children was closest. Especially since by the time they reached Zinnia’s garden his paws were starting to ache. The rough paths of Twolegplace were not exactly kind to his paw pads. Zinnia • She-cat • 11 moons • Kittypet Zinnia lay sprawled out on the back of her housefolk’s couch, lazily peering out the window. It was a nice morning to just bathe in the weak sunlight coming through, staying inside where it was warm. Of course, this wouldn’t last. It never seemed to.
Movement caught her eye and she lifted her head to see her dad and some ginger cat hoping over the fence. She gave her legs and back a quick stretch before bouncing down off the couch and heading out the cat flap to greet them.
“Good morning, Dad!” she purred loudly, rubbing against him before settling back and gazing at the new cat. “Who have you brought with you this morning?” Zinnia eyed the ginger tom inquisitively, wondering where he had come from.
“I’m Gale,” he blurted out before covering his mouth with a paw and glancing at Noctus. “Sorry.” Kaeldra

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons Noctus didn’t have time to worry about whether he’d have to persuade Gale to enter the nest, because Zinnia noticed them right away and came trotting out to say hello. He licked the top of her head affectionately before the three of them settled down to chat. Noctus laughed as Gale’s eyes flicked to him apprehensively.
“No need to be sorry,” he assured the ginger tom. “Gale, this is Zinnia. Zinnia, Gale.” He introduced them more formally, nodding to each of them as he spoke their names. Then he turned to his daughter.
“I told you about my friend Flare, haven’t I? Gale is one of his siblings from a different litter,” he explained. “Imagine my surprise when I saw him running straight at me trying to get away from one of those pesky dogs! I figured as long as he was here, I could give him a tour of the place.” Noctus hoped again that Flare wouldn’t mind him stealing his little brother for the day, and mentally promised to have him back to the forest with plenty of daylight to spare.
"You have two other littermates, don't you Gale? Spider and..." Noctus brought a paw to his chin, trying to remember the name of Flare's only sister. Mossy? No, that wasn't quite right.

Zinnia • She-cat • 11 moons • Kittypet Zinnia purred affectionately. It was always nice to see her father. With there being four of them plus their mother that he had to visit, and all in different nests, it could sometimes take a while for him to get around to them all on top of being a wild cat. That was part of the reason Zinnia wanted to be able to leave her nest, to be with her father more.
“It’s nice to meet you, Gale,” she said, dipping her head politely. “You have told me about Flare, dad! And a dog? Those things always want to chase something.” Gale • Tom • 11 moons • Loner Gale dipped his head in turn, happy to meet one of his brother’s friend’s children at last. And they were the same age! It was great. Then Noctus started talking about the dog that had chased him and his body began to feel warm, his eyes darting away from both of the cats in front of him to look anywhere else. Zinnia gave a good-natured barb about how dogs always want to chase something and he finally looked back, though the warmth hadn’t quite left yet.
“Mm? Oh, yes, Spider and Melody!” he said. “Spider looks similar to me and then Melody is a tortoiseshell.” The last part was more for Zinnia’s benefit. Kaeldra Mine is pretty short too, I hope it's enough for you to respond to!

Noctus || Tom || 33 moons As soon as his daughter responded, voice politely sarcastic, Noctus wanted to shake his head to get out all the bees that were surely buzzing in his brain; of course she knew about Flare! She had met him, even, having tagged along on Lily’s escapade to find the ginger tom for training. He hadn’t been too happy hearing about it after the fact, and had half a mind to ban her from more lessons, but he supposed he had to let her grow up some time. Besides, the delay in training was what had driven her out of her nest in the first place it seemed, and Noctus was just grateful that it was Flare that the two of them had run into and not some nasty creature like a fox. A shiver went up his spine, remembering the two brutes they had come across all those moons ago.
“Sorry, Zinnia, where’s my mind today?” He said, embarrassed at his own forgetfulness, and in front of company no less. “I hope the lessons with Flare have been going well.” Then he turned to Gale, explaining what Lily had done. He knew his friend had agreed to a few more lessons with the stubborn little she-cat, but Noctus hadn’t been able to sit in on one before Flare was recruited by that strange silver queen and had to put them on hold. Speaking of which...
“Melody! That’s right. I knew it was something like that.” He had been close, at least. ”Say, Gale, didn’t --”
He was about to ask about their family joining the silver queen’s Clan when the door to the nest suddenly swung open, one of Zinnia’s twolegs coming out and making a soft cooing noise at the cats. Moons ago, this would have terrified Noctus, but now he was so used to them he was nearly a house cat himself.
“Hello!” He chirped, standing up to greet the strange furless creature.
