Minnowkit
[attr="class","familiartext"]
Date: Day 3, Shadow Moon 2020
It was cold. Well, not really cold, but with thin kitten fluff and precious little mass to her, for Minnowkit it was cold enough to make her uncomfortable. However, of course, that would not be the case if she could just run to warm herself up. But no, Heronkit had to hold them up again with all of his complaining.
“Come ooonnn Heronkit, we’re already out here, let’s go!” There was a definite teasing to the silver molly’s tone, more good-natured than the impudence her words might imply, but there was still an anxious frustration in the way she lashed her tail. They had made it all the way to the landbridge without mother spotting them and, while maybe she was a little afraid to be out here without Shellspots, Minnowkit would be loath to admit it.
Unfortunately, despite this success and the tantalizing draw of a new world within whiskers, here Heronkit was, on the other side of the gorge, protesting yet again.
‘We’ve gone far enough?’ she thought, whiskers twitching as she stared down her brother from across the stretch of land. ‘Yeah right! If we turn back now, we’ll have nothing to show for it, and mother will just get angry.’
Huffing a breath in exasperation, the kit gave a few more determined sniffs of the chilly breeze, before half jumping, half tumbling off the rock she had clambered onto. One day she would grow into her limbs and be graceful like her mother, but for now, she was too leggy and too impatient to take any care with her step. Instead, she steadied herself and took a couple of bounds back toward the landbridge.
“I swear I smelled them this time! We’ve got to be getting close. Can we go just a little further? I'll clean the nests for a moon if we find them!”
When they had been playing earlier that morning, Minnowkit had caught the scent of a cat, who she hoped they could go out and track down. She had managed to drag Heronkit into helping her find this cat, hopefully a warrior to bring back to Shellspots, but unfortunately, as many tips as her mother tried to give her, Minnowkit was an awful tracker. Even so, the occasional whiff had kept her going, and she supposed the thought of her going off alone had kept Heronkit moving too. At least, most of the time.
