Clover || Queen || 12 moons The sun was hot overhead, with hardly a breeze to alleviate the heat. Though it was otherwise sunny and pleasant, the whole forest seemed to have a hush over it, as if all the normally bustling creatures had settled down to wait out the hottest part of the day.
It might not be a bad idea to take a nap myself, a small brown tabby thought to herself as she picked her way through the undergrowth. It doesn't seem like there's any prey out in this heat. Clover had been trying to hunt since late morning, but hadnβt had any luck so far.
Giving up on the idea of a nice meal for the time being, she found a soft patch of moss at the base of a tree and shuffled it around a bit before settling into the improvised nest. She wasnβt sure if she would be able to truly sleep, but it would at least be a way to pass the time until the sun fell below the horizon. Her belly grumbled quietly, but she ignored it. She laid her head on her paws and let her eyes slide closed.
Just as she was beginning to drift off, she thought she heard a crackle in the bushes in front of her. She didnβt open her eyes, just twitched her ears dismissively as she wrote it off as her imagination. Then the rustling came again, louder this time. There was definitely something there. The question was, friend, food, or foe? Looking up, she lifted her nose and sniffed at the air as she eyed the thorns warily.

- Silence is my strength -
Stone gave a small huff of frustration. Just as he was beginning to enjoy his afternoon walk his fur had to get stuck in the branch of a bush. The day was already quite hot and his fur was simply not agreeing with the weather. And now this? He jostled around in an attempt to dislodge himself. Narrowing his eyes in concentration, he pulled harder against the plant. Finally, on the third tug he roughly stumbled away from the situation (though he did leave a good chunk of fur behind).
Yellow eyes glared at the spot that previously held him captive. 'I swear, this forest sometimes...' the tom thought to himself. Letting out a sigh, Stone shook his head in resignation and turned himself around to continue on his stroll. 'Perhaps I can find some prey for myself-'
His train of thought was put to an abrupt stop when his gaze was met with light green eyes. Although startled, his face revealed nothing as he assessed the new circumstance he found himself in. Stone quickly took in the she-cat's appearance, noting that she seemed rather young. Her most memorable feature (at least to him) was her split nose, pink and brown dividing themselves. Silently, he pondered her presence there. She was laid upon a nest of sorts, and he soon realized that he must have interrupted her sleep.
The Maine Coon knew he should apologize for the intrusion, and fleetingly he felt embarrassed for possibly waking her up in such a strange manner. But rather than vocalizing these thoughts, he simply tilted his head in question and stared.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons No sooner had Clover lifted her head than a large gray shape came tumbling out of the undergrowth toward her. She nearly jumped up in shock to get out of the way, but the ball of fur quickly regained its footing and she realized it was a tom. He glared balefully at the bush he had just pushed through. Had someone been chasing him? She had begun to relax, but now was back on high alert in case some other cat came running after him. Then, unexpectedly, the striped tom swung his head around to meet her gaze.
He looked at her for a long moment without speaking. His unblinking eyes gave away nothing, and she wondered if she should be worried. Was he angry at her for being in the way? Maybe this was his territory and she had happened to stroll into it without realizing. Clover waited for him to say something, to tell her to get lost or perhaps demand to know what she was doing here, but he simply tilted his head to the side and continued staring.
She stood slowly and deliberately, so that he would know she didn't plan to fight him. As if she would even try! He was easily twice her size, with well defined muscle visible under his pelt. She wouldn't last two heartbeats in a battle with this cat.
"I'm sorry," she said quietly, beginning to pad backwards without breaking eye contact. "I didn't realize there were other cats here. If you want me to, I can leave." As she moved, her stomach gave another quiet growl and she winced inwardly.

Stone held the she-cat's gaze for a few moments, watching as she slowly rose from her spot. His ears perked up slightly upon her quiet apology. He pondered as to why she would believe herself to be in the wrong, and when she offered to leave along with the grumble of her stomach, Stone suddenly realized he had a way to apologize for his intrusion.
He flicked his tail, hoping the stranger would understand his signal to stay put. He walked past her, careful not make a sound on the forest floor. He wandered a few paces away before hearing the quiet munching of a mouse near the root of a tree. Immediately dropping into position, Stone slowly made his way closer. As soon as he was a good distance, the tom pushed his large body into a jump, ultimately landing upon the mouse with surprising grace for such a burly cat. He ended its life quickly before picking it up in his maw, turning around and swiftly going back to the she-cat.
He had been no longer than a few minutes, and upon seeing her tabby coat, Stone made sure to step heavier in order to make her aware of his presence. Finally, he halted in front of her, dropping the mouse with a quick dip of his head. Sitting, he used his paw to nudge it towards her. He had meant for it to be a gentle suggestion, but instead he accidentally sent it flying, resulting in a small thud against the other's front legs. Again, Stone knew his face remained neutral, but he internally cringed at such a weird display.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons As she backed away slowly, Clover could see the tom looked almost... confused? Maybe he wasn't as angry as she had assumed. Then her stomach betrayed her and he flicked his tail at the noise, perhaps in amusement, before setting off into the undergrowth again. He seemed not to care that she was here, so she sat down on the patch of grass under her paws and to wait for his return. Assuming he hadn't gone to get help driving her out, she hoped maybe she could come out of this situation with a new friend. It had been a long time since she had spoken to another cat more than in passing.
As she pondered, she began to groom herself, suddenly conscious of her fur sticking out haphazardly. The greenleaf heat and humidity had not been cooperative with her long coat, and she hadn't bothered trying to wrestle with it yet since she was hunting alone. Just as she was drawing a paw over one ear, the tom returned with a mouse in his jaws. How had he found that so quickly when she'd been looking for ages?
Before she could process why he had brought the prey, he flung it toward her and it landed with soft 'thump' at her paws. Clover looked down at the mouse, then up to his golden eyes, then back down. Suddenly it clicked.
"Oh, for me? Thank you," she said, her voice growing soft. He was much kinder than she had given him credit for! The tabby silently scolded herself for making such assumptions based on appearance as she tucked into her meal. She supposed now was as good a time to introduce herself as any.
"I'm Clover, by the way," she said between bites. "What's your name? I haven't been in the area for long, so I'm still learning who's who."

- Silence is my strength -
Stone inwardly gave a sigh of relief. The she-cat, thankfully, didn't acknowledge his clumsy way of showing kindness other than with a quick look of confusion. In fact, he was even thanked for his actions. Satisfied with the transaction, the tom sat himself a bit away while in front of her and, similarly to her previous movements, began to groom himself.
"I'm Clover, by the way," the brown tabby said as she began her meal. "What's your name? I haven't been in the area for long, so I'm still learning who's who." Stone, in turn, paused his grooming to look at the other. Regarding her for a few moments, he concluded that the name Clover did, indeed, suit her well. Particularly because of her green eye color. Realizing her was probably staring, he cleared his throat and answered (a bit too loudly, mind you), "My name is Stone." Another instant of hesitation before adding, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Clover."
The tom briskly licked his paw before drawing it over his ear. The circumstance he found himself in, albeit a little strange, was not unpleasant. He hadn't spoken to anyone in quite a while, and he rather enjoyed Clover's company thus far. So much so, he decided to attempt to carry on the conversation. Acknowledging the final part of Clover's previous statement, Stone remarked, "I've lived here for a few moons and only met a few others. Admittedly..." He trailed off, pondering the best way to continue for a few moments, before continuing, "I've been hoping to meet others who know about the former Clans. Would you, by chance, have any knowledge of or interest in them?"

Clover || Queen || 12 moons Seeing her accept his gift seemed to make the stoic tom relax, and she felt her own muscles loosening as he did. When she spoke, however, he turned his intense gaze on her once more and she wondered if she had misspoken. She couldn't think of anything she had said that could be taken badly... But then again, she had seen other cats offended over less. After staring at her for a few heartbeats, he seemed to give himself a mental shake and introduced himself in return.
"My name is Stone," he meowed, his voice slightly rough, as if he hadn't spoken in some time. He seemed a bit unsure as he added, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Clover." She supposed many cats would be instantly wary of his size and stature, as she had been. He confirmed this thought in the next moment as he went on, "I've lived here for a few moons and only met a few others. Admittedly..."
Clover's ears twitched curiously as he trailed off. She had always been a bit nosy, but she tried not to pester other cats too much. The tabby waited patiently, finishing the last scraps of her mouse and beginning to groom herself once more. She immediately froze again when he started to speak.
"I've been hoping to meet others who know about the former Clans. Would you, by chance, have any knowledge of or interest in them?" Clover's paws prickled with excitement. Stone knew about the Clans! It had been some time since she had spoken to anyone about them, and she found herself falling into fond memories as she thought of the stories she had been told.
"Oh, yes! I've always loved the stories about the Clans, my mother used to tell me about them as a kit," she told him, eyes lighting up. "My favourite was always ThunderClan, they're so brave! Always defending their territory from those evil ShadowClan cats." Her nose wrinkled in distaste, and she sighed as she relaxed it. "It's too bad they're not real. I would have loved to meet a real Clan cat." She shook her head and brightened up again. "Are you trying to learn more about the Clans? I've heard lots of different stories so it might take a while to remember them all, but I'll try my best to help!"

- Silence is my strength -
Stone watched as Clover's interest piqued upon his mentioning of the Clans. Her excitement was contagious, and he found himself smiling slightly upon his companion's retelling of the tales. Finally, he said to himself, another who longs for a greater purpose! Or, at the very least, for adventure! But her former elation somewhat dimmed (though not completely) as she regrettably admitted to the fiction of them. Yes, he mused, the Clans are simply stories now. Though, again she brightened, asking him if he wanted her assistance. And, consequently, he became more elated as well. Reflecting quickly on the conversation, he realized how Clover's sociable nature ultimately led him to feel more interested whenever she did. His smile perked up a bit in amusement as this thought.
Before answering Clover's question, the gray tabby doubled back to her first statement. "I always found ThunderClan to be the most admirable as well. Although, I do wonder if the tales regarding ShadowClan are somewhat exaggerated..." The large tom drifted off again, silently wondering how any cat could be so evil with seemingly no reason? Surely, even ShadowClan had their motivations? Eventually, Stone came back to the real world, his yellow eyes sharpening back into focus. "I would greatly appreciate your support, Clover. I understand that the Clans are no longer a reality, but someday, perhaps they will be... If the Clans were around at this very moment, would you attempt to join them?" He tilted his head in question. He was hesitant to bring up the idea of actually beginning a Clan, especially since it was such an extravagant dream. And, he thought to himself, dreams are simply dreams, not actuality. He had no knowledge of how to even lead a group of cats, or if he possessed the skills to do so... No, he could not bring the subject into the conversation... yet.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons Clover nodded sagely as the tom agreed with her. The other Clans had their merits, she thought, but ThunderClan was the obvious winner when it came to which was best. She admitted that Stone had a point, and it wasn't exactly realistic that one Clan would be so evil all the time, but every good story had to have a villain, right? It was the classic story of good versus evil. Clover loved the drama of it all, knowing that the heroes would always triumph.
Her tail gave a happy flick at his easy acceptance of her help. It would be nice to spend some time talking to another cat again after so long on her own, and she thought again that it would be nice if they could be friends. When he started speaking of the Clans coming back into existence, though, her eyes widened a bit. Could that happen? Did they really exist to begin with? She mulled over his question for a moment before responding.
"You really think they could be real someday? I always thought it was a really nice story, but maybe too good to be true..." Clover played through a few of her favourite tales in her mind, trying to see them as reality rather than fiction. "I think it would be amazing to be part of a Clan though! I just don't know if they would want me to join them, I'm not half as brave as they are." The tabby traced a claw slowly through the dirt in front of her as she admitted to this. While she loved the stories, the idea of actually going into battle and fighting was not appealing in the slightest. She would make a pretty poor warrior, she thought wistfully.

Stone nodded once at Clover's query. He knew the Clans could begin again one day. Although, probably not very soon, considering he has yet to meet someone other than Clover who ponders their existence. But, the she-cat also had a point. Perhaps they were simply stories created by mothers and fathers hoping to teach their kits a lesson or two on surviving in an exciting way. He shook his head to himself, no. There were too many stories, too many cats who knew about the Clans. There must have been cats living in groups together. He had to hold onto that hope... without it, what purpose did he have?
"I think it would be amazing to be part of a Clan though! I just don't know if they would want me to join them, I'm not half as brave as they are." Stone tuned back into reality, eyeing the brown tabby closely. She had to have been living by herself for some time, as her scent was the only one in the area other than his own and some prey. There was bravery in that. However, he admitted that she was on the smaller side, but if she fluffed up her fur, it would give her appearance a more intimidating factor. Finally, Stone muttered, "That can not be true." He was quiet again, before continuing, "You've made it this far, correct?" Not waiting for an answer (since he already formed his own conclusion), he added, "You are residing in a forest by yourself. You've managed to defend yourself in some form and provide food for yourself. It's precisely what the Clans did, just with greater numbers." He nodded his head once as if to confirm this with himself.
That was the most he's spoken in... awhile. Stone felt a bit weary. Was he too blunt? Or did he not explain his opinion in great enough detail? Perhaps he was overdoing the conversation with his own dreams and visions.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons Clover continued to stare at the ground after she spoke, letting out a light sigh. It was a bit embarrassing, she thought, to admit her cowardice. But it was better than letting Stone think she was some brave warrior-like cat, when her most likely reaction if a fight broke out would be to turn tail and run. She wondered if she had disappointed him. When he spoke again, though, his voice was gentle. She looked up with big eyes.
"That can not be true." He said this quietly, but firmly. Then he added, louder, "You've made it this far, correct?"
Clover frowned a bit as she thought about it. Technically he wasn't wrong, but... The tabby was about to open her mouth when he began again, and the conviction with which he spoke was startling. He thought she was like the Clan cats? That was flattering, she had to admit. But these were all things that every cat did! She didn't think she was particularly special for that.
"I don't know," she mewed, looking down again. "Those are just everyday things, any cat could be a warrior by those standards." She tried to imagine a cat like her being the hero in one of the many stories she had heard, but she just couldn't see it. If anything, her role would probably be an apprentice who had to take a message to someone and wasn't mentioned again. She glanced again at the large cat before her, appraising now.
"I bet you'd make a good warrior, though. I'm sure you could take down any evil cats that got in your way!" The tabby's whiskers twitched in excitement, eyes sparkling. "What about you, then? Would you try to join them?"

Stone frowned slightly upon seeing Clover remained unconvinced. He'd have to improve his pep talks. And just talking in general. His companion commented on how survival was an every day thing. Perhaps it is, he conceded. I wish she understood that every cat has a purpose, even if it isn't easy to see. Before he could voice his thoughts, the brown tabby suddenly perked up and remarked that he would make a good warrior. He smiled a bit at the compliment, dipping his head in thanks. He spent all of his spare time training for confrontation, but it had yet to happen out in the forest considering his size was the first characteristic others tended to notice. Though, he realized that if he were to meet a cat twice his size, he'd probably turn tail and flee as well. No reason to risk injury if you don't know how to heal it.
"What about you, then? Would you try to join them?" Clover asked curiously.
For once, Stone didn't need to think about his answer. Quickly, he replied, "Yes." His yellow eyes shined as he continued, "I would really enjoy having others to teach and others to learn from." At the end of his statement, the gray tabby suddenly had an idea. "Speaking of... If you ever need anything, do not hesitate to ask. I could perhaps train you, so you could defend yourself. Or we could hunt together sometime..." The tom trailed off, once again in his own little world as he imagined different things the two could do together. It would be enjoyable to have a companion like Clover, especially since she seemed to bring him out of his shell.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons Clover wasn't surprised when Stone replied without hesitation. Despite his stoic manner, it was clear he cared a lot about the stories and had put a lot of thought into what it would be like if they were real. As he went on, his words set thoughts buzzing around the tabby's head like bees. Teaching others, and having others to learn from... She had never considered it from that perspective, but now that he said it she knew he was right. If she were part of a Clan, they would all be able to help each other and learn faster than if they were alone. It reminded her of times she had run across other friendly cats in her travels, who always had some useful technique to share. Living in a Clan would be like that, but all the time! How wonderful that would be, Clover thought with a sigh.
"Speaking of..." Stone began again, breaking her out of her daydreams. "If you ever need anything, do not hesitate to ask. I could perhaps train you, so you could defend yourself. Or we could hunt together sometime..." he trailed off. Clover blinked twice, then a small grin stretched across her face.
"I'd love that, thank you," she purred. She was glad she wasn't the only one who enjoyed the company. "I don't know how good of a student I'd be, but it's worth a try! It would almost be like we're our own little Clan," she laughed to herself. She hoped she wasn't being too friendly. While she'd only met him that day, she already felt remarkably comfortable around Stone.
"And if there's anything I can help you with, let me know and I'll do my best," she added, sitting up straighter. She wanted to be able to be of assistance too, though she wasn't sure there could be much this tom wasn't able to do on his own. She'd like to repay his kindness.

Stone was taken away from his imaginary world upon Clover's response. The tabby she-cat purred, claiming she would love to work with him. Flattered by the genuineness of her statement, a quiet smile graced his features. Clover admitted that she may not be the best student, but the tom returned the doubts with a look that could have quelled a fire of uncertainty; a look that boldly declared his opposition to her thoughts. The look was a stark contrast to his normally consistent stare, but Stone truly was beginning to (slowly) learn how to be himself around others. He was a determined tom, and nothing would get in his way; even when it simply came to helping a new familiar. His ear flicked as Clover mentioned how their companionship would be similar to that of a real Clan. Happy to hear the assertion, he nodded his head in agreement, excitement still steadily coursing through him.
Finally, Clover concluded by offering her own assistance should he ever need it. Silently, the tom thought to himself, I'd consider her friendship to be enough. But, he simply nodded again, grateful for her amiability. Stone looked up through the trees, noticing through the branches how the sun had moved a notable distance during their discussion. Giving a long, luxurious stretch, Stone stood up from his sitting position. He was suddenly exhausted after so much socializing, feeling as though a boulder had unexpectedly rolled over him! And although he rather enjoyed meeting Clover, he could certainly use a decent nap.
Eyeing the brown tabby with nothing but kindness in his yellow gaze, he dipped his head in thanks and farewell. "I'm going to go home now," The tom said with his trademark bluntness, his tail swishing slowly behind him. "Thank you, for everything." Blinking once, the tom turned and slowly prowled away through the bushes of the forest floor. He'd find Clover again and spend another day with her as soon as he could. But for now, a nap really did sound nice.

Clover || Queen || 12 moons At Stone's look, Clover gave another quiet laugh. There were no words spoken, but she got the message loud and clear. It was good to see his serious exterior begin to crack a little bit and show some of the emotions underneath. He seemed pleased as he nodded at her words about being similar to a Clan, and she found herself excited at the prospect. How would it work, she wondered? She had never had any type of training before, aside from the basics her mother had taught her and her littermates when she was little more than a kit.
The tabby was about to open her mouth to ask more about his plans, when she noticed Stone looking up at the sky and followed his gaze. Her eyes widened minutely; surely they hadn't been talking that long? The grey tom rose and stretched, and Clover wondered if he intended to begin her training right this moment. She felt a spark of panic. As kind as he was, she needed time to prepare herself! But evidently, he had other ideas.
"I'm going to go home now," he meowed, changing the subject abruptly. Then he thanked her, and turned to go. She noticed for the first time that his movements had a sedate quality to them, and guessed he was rather tired. Clover covered her disappointment with another smile as she watched him go.
"Thank you as well! See you soon," she said brightly after him, hoping it would be true. They hadn't arranged any time to meet, but she didn't want to be too pushy about it. She would stay in the general area for a while, just in case he came looking for her.
After he had gone, she stood and scented the air. Her paws were thrumming with energy, refreshed after talking with Stone about the Clans, and she wanted to put it to good use. The mouse he had given her had taken the edge off her hunger, but she knew her belly would be growling again soon enough. She padded into the undergrowth in search of prey, looking forward to the days ahead.
